Happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] tofu_cat!

Hello to new readers [livejournal.com profile] flata, [livejournal.com profile] mere_bystander, [livejournal.com profile] nuclearwoman, [livejournal.com profile] rosefox8, [livejournal.com profile] sealgair, and [livejournal.com profile] sm_jen!

Warning: I'm not always all ranty and political; most of my posts are more along the lines of yesterday's riddle from my daughter or "life with 'song and Adam" post. My LJ is less a home for thoughtful essays than it is just the dumping ground for unfiltered thoughts; it's not a newspaper, it's a diary and message board! :) Plus, I think it would wear us all out if I was ranty all the time.

I have developed a really nifty and interesting readership and community along the way. So - have fun. :) I may actually do a Friending Frenzy post tomorrow as my Friday Audience Participation thing...

Medical
Exhaustion + nausea + just a little bit of haze so far.

Professional
I'm about to do something that scares the crap out of me. Wish me luck! EDIT: I did it. *commences low-grade freaking out*

Today's Goals
An hour on the epilepsy book. Two hours of cleaning up the house, broken down into easily digestible 15-minute chunks. (Mother-in-Law arrives tomorrow!) An hour of fiction-type writing. Getting caught up on some of the comments on that post! Rest as needed.

Putting away the comics only counts as cleaning if I do not stop to re-read the comics. *slaps own wrist*

Okay, that "clean for 15 minutes" thing? That's a sensible thing.

Note to gimpy self: Do not, when the timer goes off, think "Oh, just a little more." Or, well, you can think it. As long as you slap yourself for it and then go read a book instead.

Yeah. Bye-bye, spoons.

I can't help it. The mother-in-law will be examining this place first thing Saturday morning! The kitchen and living room, at least, must be perfect. If Elayna's room is slightly messy, well, she's eleven. There's no hope for Adam's office, but she's used to Adam. (My office is fairly hopeless right now, but it's in the basement; we'll just say "Oh, nothing down there but the washer and dryer.") Our bedroom's been looking good for a while now.

What? I'm not freaking out.

Much.

Hey, have a survey-meme-thingie. The answers you seek lie beneath. )

Widdershins arrived today, during my nap; I started reading it over dinner. Got to Geordie's first chapter, and...

I'd say we all find friends in books, but I honestly can't say if it's universal. Nonetheless, I find that many people I know find friends in books. Most of the attachments I make are to characters that are frozen in time, however - either due to the death of their authors, or simply the fact that, like [livejournal.com profile] coffeeem's Orient, their authors no longer write them.

But I love Geordie Riddell, fiercely love him, and today there is more Geordie; today I get to catch up with him, see what he's been up to. It's like bumping into an old beloved friend in a coffeehouse unexpectedly - the smile when you see them, the warmth that spreads through you as you say their name in just that way right before you give them a five-minute hug.

Here is my old friend, with new stories. :)
