Happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] eilonwy!

Medical
Hanging in there. Yesterday morning I was slugabed due to dialing up on the Lyrica, but I got stuff done in the afternoon.

Boston
Adam found what looks like the ideal house - probably an apartment in a house, but still! - in Newton, for fairly cheap. He'll be looking at that and one in Arlington. (We're still looking! Send us links!) How much of a hike is it from Newton to the Camberville area? I know it's on the Green Line - which is the second best line, right?

Freewill Astrology
"When you follow your bliss," wrote mythologist Joseph Campbell, "doors will open where you would not have thought there would be doors, and where there wouldn't be a door for anyone else." That's always true, Pisces, but it's especially apropos for you now. If you swear a blood oath to follow your bliss, vowing to do what your secret self loves more than anything else, a portal will open that's as big as a garage door and as sweet as a gateway to a secret garden.

Dear Brits,
Neal Asher will be signing copies of his not-yet-available-here book Polity Agent at Forbidden Planet "this coming Saturday the 7th October between 1 – 2pm". If you get me a copy, I will love you forever.

P.S.: [livejournal.com profile] australian_joe would probably like one, too.

Daily Science
"People with post-traumatic stress disorder [PTSD], general anxiety disorder, and very severe depression just can't quite clear their minds of emotional stimuli," said Amit Etkin, a psychiatrist at Stanford University.
In a study published in the Sept. 21 issue of Neuron, Etkin and colleagues at Columbia University explored how the brain handles emotional distraction.
They found that a structure at the front of the brain plays an active role in resolving emotional conflict. It accomplishes this task by diminishing activity in the amygdala, which is known to process emotion...

Herve This, a physical chemist, wants to bring the scientific method to the kitchen. At his laboratory in the Collège de France in Paris, he and his students debunk dictums, test old wives tales, and pare dishes down to their barest elements before rebuilding them into new food blends and innovative cuisine.

Daily BPAL
Just one today. My Carnaval Diabolique decants are still held up, my Black Moon order is held up... *aggrieved sigh* But! I have a bottle of Death of Sardanapal coming, a gift from the wonderful [livejournal.com profile] ysabel. And that makes me happy.

Dee: John Dee: master of science, alchemy and magic, Hermetic philosopher in the schools of Rosicrucian Christian Mysticism and Platonic-Pythagorean doctrine, and Queen Elizabeth’s astrologer, advisor, cryptologist and spy. With Edward Kelly, he created a field of study and work in Angelic Evocation, and isolated the Angelic language: Enochian. His scent is soft English leather, rosewood and tonka with a hint of incense, parchment and soft woods.

In bottle: Incense and wood.

On me: Wow, this is nice. The leather hangs in the background, accenting the rest. The rosewood and incense are the big things here. This is a wonderful masculine scent. Yay. :) I wish I could describe it better...

I'd been packing for a while; I stretched out on my bed to rest my back. Flopped over onto my tummy and grabbed the laptop. Spooky, standing on the other side of the bed, laughed at me and my addiction. She continued packing. "This is actually the best time for me to be here," she said. "The weekend before the haunt opens - everything's ahead of schedule there, and I feel very organized."

I grinned - "I'm really glad you're here." - and reached out to her.

Her hand met mine, fingers twining, and she climbed onto the bed. She had that mischievous-yet-shy look, and I pulled her closer -

And the phone rang to wake me up.

Dammit.

It's especially irksome when the dreams are so *real*. You know?

*sigh* I miss her.

(Note to Spooky: You were wearing one of those cute jackets from Newport News that you showed me. Looked adorable on you.)

'song: *filks Weird Al's "Trapped in the Drive-Thru* for about 20 minutes*

'song: *pokes Adam with her foot* "Feed me."

Adam: "Does it have to be human?"

'song: "Feeeed me!"

Adam: "Does it have to be mine?"

'song: *belts the rest of Audrey II's lines*

Elayna: *remains unfazed, plays Animal Crossing*

'song: *pokes Adam with her foot* "Feed me!"

Adam: *laugh*

'song: "If you don't feed me, I will sing it again."

Adam: "Feed you, or you shall sing again?"

'song: "Yah."

The only way to shut me up is to put something in my mouth.

And I will rain badly-interpreted show tunes and song parodies down upon all y'all until I get some tuna casserole or a freakin' cheeseburger.

(Is it actually possible to filk Weird Al? Is that impossibly meta/recursive?)
