Couldn't sleep last night. :( Probably fell asleep around 1:30 (yes, that's way late for me!), and [livejournal.com profile] yendi fell asleep at 2:30. So even though we'd vowed to only go to Caribou for our morning caffeine once a week, we went again today anyway.

So today's Caribou trivia question (you get 10 cents off if you get it right): "What civilization invented the arch?" I said Roman. [livejournal.com profile] yendi said Greek. I was right. As always. Yesterday the question was, "Which one of Shakespeare's characters had most most lines?" I said Hamlet. He said Macbeth. I was right. As always. I keep teasing him that his bachelor's degree in English pales before my community-college-dropout pure instinct. He says that, as he has more education, he has more ways to second-guess himself. I say his second-guessing is why he'll lose to me every time. :)

I'm wearing a long patchwork twirly gypsyish skirt, and a snug black shirt to show off the effects of the new bra. :) What're you guys wearing? How did you sleep? Talk to me, tell me something. :)

For the record:

A) When we got home yesterday, [livejournal.com profile] shadesong thought there was an open Frappucino in the fridge. There wasn't. So she can be wrong, in spite of her claims otherwise. :-)

B). When I posed the same question to Harry Rusche (one of the Shakespearean scholars at Emory), he wasn't sure, either. He guessed Lear, in fact.

B) I'm telling you. Instinct over education. :)

Wearing: Enh, the usual.

Sleep: Like a log. Didn't wake once, and dreamt all night of various bits and pieces of game stuff, mostly with references to the visions the characters had in the Threshold of Ages campaign. And then did my brain in by playing NWN before leaving for work.

slept lousy, second night in a row. went to bed at 4 this morning, up at 8.30. it's gotta be the heat -- i'll be taking a nap later today, prolly during the most unbearably hot part of the day. [because, well, what else can you do, right, when it feels like it's over 100 degrees and you can see the humidity?]

Dude. Best. Icon. Ever. That is so you.

My answers on the clothes front are always going to be a little dull, as I tend to find an outfit that works for me and then buy more in the same line, so today it's a grey t-shirt and blue jeans identical to, though not the same as, the ones I was wearing last time you asked. ;-)

As for sleeping, I tend to collapse onto my bed when my eyes won't stay open any more and sleep fairly quickly but only for about 4 hours after which I usually can't get back to sleep again. Last night the first part of this was accompanied by a tape of an episode of The Goon Show. I like to have comedy to go to sleep to, just habit I guess. Though any audio will do at a pinch. I can't be easy falling asleep without noise. This little town is just too quiet after London, I suppose, even ten years down the line.

I actually slept pretty well - asleep before 1:30! But it's rainy this morning which is keeping me sleepy. :(

I'm wearing Business Casual IT Drone Uniform #4 (pants, polo shirt, sneakers). :P

A friend of mine used to work at a caribou, and they had a lot of fun with the trivia questions.

Community college? I did that for two years, but didn't get that comuunity degree. I transferred to real college for six years. Didn't get that degree either. Who needs 'em?

Wearing? Black combat boots, black socks (laundry situation), boxers with I think blue stars, black belt with knotwork buckle, black ultrazone t-shirt, wedding chain, watch, wedding ring, glasses. No politics, I have to move furniture at the office.

I was going to community college while working 40 hours a week and parenting a toddler. Needless to say, I was only able to take one or two classes a semester, and I ended up never graduating... and honestly, I don't see as how I'd have a better job with a degree.

Like "songwind" I'm wearing the Business casual thing -- though I do have to say that my new black slacks, 6 sizes smaller than this time last year, accentuate the new much nicer touche. For some reason I like to run my hands down my own rear now...I'm LOVING it! But, in objection to this conservative clothing, I have on a silver celtic cross, a silver celtic double-knot ring, and my brown Earth Shoe Celron 2000's with my bright purple toe nails shining and the tatoo on my ankle plainly visible...forgot the toe ring and anklet today, but the silver fairie does sit on my ear cuff winking at the world.

I love academia! At my old job, I wore suits.... I couldn't even wear casual slacks except on Fridays. Here? I wear jeans, gypsy skirts, my favorite sparkly sexy shirts.... I'm very happy here. :)

This IS academia...but since it's the ADMIN/BUSINESS side of it, not faculty, we get away with less "casual" -- there are other departments/units that can wear jeans, etc. We just aren't one of them!
Wednesday, July 3rd, 2002 07:52 am (UTC)
Well, poo. :( I'm in the math department - secretary - what department are you?
Wednesday, July 3rd, 2002 08:04 am (UTC)
financial admin

Business casual is the worst of both worlds. Women have some options that don't suck, but guys end up looking like the uncomfortable guy at the frat party. The only good thing about business casual is you can wear suits with the stuff they don't allow you to wear in a strict business wear environment. I like suits, I hate ties....

Wearing? Comfy blue pantsuit thing I found last night while cleaning out my drawers at 1:30 am when I couldn't sleep. Blue and silver earrings (and why couldn't you have asked me this yesterday when I was wearing the first pair of earrings I've made?? I'm dead proud of them, been wearing them every day since Saturday. Except of course today.) Bra, panties, socks, shoes, silver watch.

Sleep? See above. Can't sleep. This is something like the third or fourth night for me. Really starting to feel the effects too.
Wednesday, July 3rd, 2002 07:12 am (UTC)
Well, tell me about the earrings now! :)
Wednesday, July 3rd, 2002 07:59 am (UTC)
They're totally cool... made from black wire twisted into a kind of celtic knot design thingy. Made them on the gizmo I ordered on the net. I had to have it shipped to friends in the US and have it mailed up here, because shipping was going to cost $30 US (which is $50 Canadian, give or take) to Canada, but was free in the states. And the total cost for edie22 to mail it to me? Something like four bucks. Grr..
Anyhow, they're way cool and I'm hoping to make more this weekend.

Nifty! I have friends who make earrings and sell them on eBay - check out "jlcullum" and "burningtiger". Maybe you should do that! The earrings sound gorgeous. :)

Wearing? Black slip on shoes, black jeans, white panties, light purple shirt with butterflies embroidered on it, black bra. Rings, glasses, headphones, etc.

Sleep? I went to bed about 2am, got up at 8:30. So 6.5 hours isn't so bad, right? sure. that's about what I'm used to. I need there to be about 5 more hours in a day. Or you know, get paid about 5 times as much and work that many less hours.
Wednesday, July 3rd, 2002 07:25 am (UTC)
Got to bed early last night: got home at 10 from the rugrat's birthday shindig, and was probably asleep by 11. (That's early for me; I usually go to bed between midnight and 1am.) Slept like a LOG. Woke up fine when Chris got up...brushed and braided his hair when he finished his shower, and went nicely back to sleep. The alarm that was supposed to wake me up at 6 didn't wake me until 6:45. I'd been dreaming about trying to turn off a noise that was coming out of my computer. It was very annoying. *giggle*

Today I am wearing a pale brown broomstick skirt, and a black shirt with just a bit of open weave, so that if the light hits it right, you can see my pretty red bra that I'm wearing underneath. :)
Wednesday, July 3rd, 2002 07:26 am (UTC)
Oh, yeah, and I couldn't *find* the red panties that go with this bra, so I'm wearing green satin ones. *giggle* Present-wrapping colours hidden underneath the wrapping!
Wednesday, July 3rd, 2002 08:08 am (UTC)
I, too, have on a red lacey bra and red silk panties! Maybe that's why I keep feeling myself up! ;-)
Wednesday, July 3rd, 2002 07:38 am (UTC)
Yummy! I love broomstick skirts.... earthmothery-yet-sexy. :)
Wednesday, July 3rd, 2002 07:31 am (UTC)
I slept like a log, pretty much. A horde of visigoths is remodeling the appartment upstairs, and they woke me up arround seven, but I was able to get back to sleep, for a very resful seven hours, which is a long night's sleep for me.

I am stark, raving naked right now, because I am at home, and there is no one to see me! I hate clothes, especially in sauna-like weather like we're having now.
Wednesday, July 3rd, 2002 07:39 am (UTC)
"Horde of visigoths"? Oh, I like that. :) And yay for nudity!
Wednesday, July 3rd, 2002 07:46 am (UTC)
I love broomstick skirts!

I've got on my proper button-down business casual shirt on, my third-best cotton docker-style pants, mismatched socks (you try choosing matching dark socks in the dark!), holey boat shoes, and white Poppa-style fruit o' the looms.

I *love* how women can choose to wear all these different things, and I love how they carbonate my hormones when they do.
Wednesday, July 3rd, 2002 07:52 am (UTC)
Yeah, it's fun being a girl. :) I think on Friday I'll wear my sparkly meshy purple shirt and tight jeans. :)

Wednesday, July 3rd, 2002 10:27 am (UTC)
I'm hanging out with Ashes, who took three days off, so with the 4th ended up having the whole week off and the weekends on the end. That's not accidental.

So, sleep: spent the last few nights curled up with her, sleeping soundly until the cats wake us up in the morning or we actually get up on time to go do stuff.

waring: well, we originally only planned for hanging out for two days, so four days later I'm raiding her clost and running around in blue jeans so faded they're nearly white, and a t-shirt that she dug out of a dumpster from behind a print shop in high school - it has jurrasic park on the front, bohemian rhapsody on the back, some band with big hair on the side, and two or three smeared logos on the inside. And an earring I pickeed up at renfaire -a silver with a black stone dangly and two chains running up to an earcuff thing. Oh, and plenty of cat hair, in all siamese colors.
