Just did this for [livejournal.com profile] wolfieboy, who asked what Shayara was about. Is it a good nutshell statement? What do y'all think?
---------
The name of the comic is Shayara, which is the name of the ancestral city of the Dasaroi - a race that existed before, and now coexists (and breeds) with, humanity. No physical differences, only mental ones; those with strong Dasaroi blood have what we would term psychic powers, the type and intensity of which varies. The Dasaroi also have a form of reincarnation that allows more access to the past-life memories than the typical kind you hear about. Over the centuries, the Dasaroi have lived throughout the world, having forgotten what they are, but now the memories are returning, and over the last century, Shayara has once again begun to thrive. One problem: the ancestral leader of the Dasaroi, the Lishaya, has been missing for some time, and the people who've forcibly taken charge are doing Very Bad Things. So it falls to our heroes to find the Lishaya, whoever she may be, and restore the city and their world to their former glory...

Let me polish it first, okay? :)

It's a city, and it's on modern-day Earth?

So, where is it?
Tuesday, July 9th, 2002 01:12 pm (UTC)
It's wherever it needs to be. :)

The city is hidden from the world around it by two barriers - one fog, one mental. You don't know it exists unless you're meant to know. And awareness can come and go - UPS delivers in the city, but forgets it exists after delivering the package and leaving, for example.

Ah, so it's like a copyright-check city (I've always wanted to write a story based in one of those).

Or Xanth.

Or Lornadoone.

Copyright-check? Lornadoone?

And it most certainly *nothing* like Xanth. Bite your tongue, man.

I meant Brigadoon.

Copyright-check towns are too complicated to explain here.

And don't try to fool me on the Xanth issue. I've been to your house; I've seen the books.

Ummm.... yeah. No Xanth books.

Piers Anthony ***hisssss** That man lives 10 minutes from my house. Evil. And he gets more sexually perverted as he gets older. And yes, that is possible, even for a twisted mysogynistic child perverter like him. (Can you tell I don't like the man? And, yes, I've met him personally on numerous occasions. Only good thing to talk to him about is Zelazny, and he's a great resource for great Zelazny stories).

Yeah. Piers Anthony is a sick, sick individual.

I read the nutshell (above) and Chronicles of Amber popped up as similar. Then I read the post replies and came to this one - referring to Zelazny! Well, the content of the post is hopefully saying that the only thing good about Piers Anthony was that he could tell stories about Zelazny, which is fine with me since I have no desire to read Anthony.

The first portion of the reply and the parenthetical are not related, right? I mean, Zelazny was a good guy, right? (hopes so)

Woo! Hopefully you'll still be reminded on Zelazny when you read the actual comic; that's a Good Person to be compared to!

And as far as I know, he was a Good Person all around....[livejournal.com profile] yendi, the Jewish heterosexual Will to my shorter, bustier Grace, runs a Zelazny community, [livejournal.com profile] damnation_alley. :)

Thank you on all three counts!

I am anticipating reading your comic... soon[?]! And, when you say, "actual comic," is this going to be something to find in the comic book stores? (I'm an obsessive collector when I find a good series.)

Oooh, I hope soon! Realistically, best case scenario, this is over a year away...

And yes, my goal is to have this on paper and in comic shops. :)
