I had a very scary moment, coming back from lunch.

I plugged in my heater, and it didn't turn on.

After much fiddling, the heater is now blessedly chugging away. Thank goodness. Because this office is *freezing*.

Dangit, you get a heater?!?

We tried that. Administration told us it violated fire codes and took our heater away. =(
@!#^@! computerized temperature system keeps it like a meat locker in here - 45 computers must screw with its little computerized brain.

Wah! I wanna heater too!

All three secretaries get heaters. We seriously would not be able to work without them, it's so goddamn cold in here.

*looks puzzled*

wouldn't it make more sense for some people to save money and turn the thermostat up? it is summer, after all...

Computer lab. "We need to keep it cool for the computers".

um....

is this the geek line, ore the "fat old white men in wool suits" line?

and can you point out that you simply need to keep it cool enough for the computers not to overheat - the whole point in cooling a room is to compensate for the heat generated by the computers and monitors? A nice 70-75 in the room is just as good for the computers as 40. Now if your computer core temp is getting up to 100, that's bad, but if you keep the core temp at 75 (room temp and computer fans figure into this) everything's hunky-dory.

if it were california, you could work that into a memo about saving electricity and things would be great. But you might have to resort to bringing a sweater :-(

Geek line. :)

i keep a hooded jacket and a huge, terry beach-towel in my office for emergencies like that.

the beach-towel is primarily for laying out over lunch though. :)

I need to buy a black cardigan....
Wednesday, July 10th, 2002 10:42 am (UTC)
i find that so incredibly ironic.

it's actually slightly cool *outside* here today.
Wednesday, July 10th, 2002 10:47 am (UTC)
Damn you and your cold!

It is about 100 today outside and our POS air conditioning isn't helping any. I have to resort to a fan inside my cube.

Tell me again what it feels like to be cold? I have faint memories of it.

Ohhh, what it feels like to be cold? Body stiff; extremeties so stiff I can barely type. Hands feel like small blocks of ice. (Nipples rock-hard, but hey, that's fairly normal.) Goosebumps. Shivering. COLD.

fingernails purple in color. Toes decidedly numb. Bad posture from hunching and hugging oneself. Shivering. The desire to make hot tea.
Wednesday, July 10th, 2002 11:03 am (UTC)
Pain in your back muscles because of constant shivering, or muscles tightening to generate heat, even below shivering level. Lots and lots of re-typing things because cold fingers don't move properly.

No matter how hot it gets here in Texas, I have a sweater in my office. I like to wear short sleeves or even better, tank tops, outside, and then freeze inside. But then, I'm always like this. My body acclimatizes to whatever temperature it is outside (part Cherokee and part Welsh'll do that to ya) but then I'm not comfortable in climate control. In the winter I'm always too hot inside, and in the summer I'm freezing. It's frustrating. :)

I prefer long sleeves, but all of my long-sleeved shirts are in the wash, except the black one, which I can't find. *scowl*
Wednesday, July 10th, 2002 11:07 am (UTC)
My fingernails are blue right now. *wretched look*

Ahhhh. I remember that. ***bliss***
