You guys posted a lot in my absence. :)

Saw "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" with Thomas. Liked it very muchly. Very funny movie. The Greeks seem very much like the Jews... :) Went to dinner at Edo (hibachi!) after that. I *like* this getting-out-of-the-house thing! :)

So. I must now go caffeinate so I can maybe write, but I ate so much at Edo that I'm sleepy. So no guarantees about the writing tonight, but I'm going to give it a shot!

Might be interesting study, how the history of the Greek Orthodox church would match up with the Jewish history in the region, similarities in culture, etc.

I love looking into things like these :)

Italian families are similar, too. :) It's the little things, the "You're so skinny, you should eat something!" and spitting to avert the Evil Eye and the loud, raucous family groups...

I prefer sushi to hibachi, though. :)

Edo also does nice sushi, although they tend to be a bit pricey.

Good sushi usually is. Here in the Twin Cities, our favorite place is a restaurant called "Sakura".

Last time we went, I had something that I think of as "the world's biggest makki roll". It was a bowl of sushi rice, topped with slices of sashimi in a nice fan arrangement. Very nummy.

This sounds yummy! Although it almost sounded really bad for a second -- the comment had the word "slices" over the word "sashimi," and I saw it as "salami," because it's getting time for bed. And that would be wrong.

But I've seen that setup before, usually with grilled unagi, which I did with a friend a couple of years ago -- we bought a bunch of sushi rolls as appetizers, then made rice and boiled the unagi he'd gotten from Japan (it was in a pouch, pre-grilled), and ate it over the rice. Was very good.

Damn, now I'll be going to be hungry.

I'm not a sushi fan - I gag on the seaweed. :(

*nod* I prever my sushi with no seaweed as well - nigiri instead of maki.
