Finally Friday. Happy Friday!

The SARK page-a-day calendar says: "Begin to find and create pleasure in new ways and places. Familiar pleasures are not always the most nourishing choices."

Thomas and I were talking last night about our childhoods, or the lack thereof. This seems to be something that a lot of us have in common.... we didn't really get to be kids.

I want to be a kid now.

So I was thinking - especially when Elayna comes back - that I should do kidthings with her. Not just being a Brownie troop leader or co-leader (however I end up), but taking some time on Saturday and Sunday to blow bubbles. Or design our own shirts with puffy fabric paint. Or color.

Anyone who wants to recapture their kidness is invited to join us. :)

Can I just chuck Ro into the mix and watch from a safe distance? I don't have the energy to keep up with all of you at once...

...so I'll bring the rubber-stamp-making materials, the polymer clay and paints, the boffer-sword-creation-gear, the boffer swords, the sidewalk chalk, and all the dress-up clothes.

Um, can I borrow that stuff from the kids, you think, [livejournal.com profile] technomom?

As long as you take them with you (at least the girls) I'm sure they won't mind.

I'm still not good at the being a kid thing. Never learned how, don't seem to be able to pick it up now.

Come along and try... I'm learning too!

There oughta be a Rent a Kid service. You know, check one out of the inventory, go wander the zoo with it, blow bubbles, play in a park, eat silly food, check it back in. No commitment, just fun. :-)

Like I've been saying for a while, I think kids are cool if you can give them back to their rightful owners when you get tired of them (for me, the threshold seems to be around 6 hours). I think that's part of why I doubt I'll ever seriously want any of my own. I'm too selfish about my own life to want to share my time (yes, that would make being non-single hard, too). One of the benefits of Bitter Spinsterhood--your time is your own, your space is your own, and what you do with them is your responsibility. Lonely, occasionally, but liberating.

This is exactly how I feel. I love being around kids as long as I get to give them back when I'm done. I think I'm too self-centered to ever be able to have kids of my own. I value my independence too much.

I need to do this with my own child more often.
