I usually give people a week to add me back...then remove them if they don't add me. Yeah, it's silly and kinda petty, but it's a blow to my ego if I'm not friended in return. It makes me think, "geez, am I *that* lame that they don't want to add me back?" And what's up with the people who get offended if you add them? I don't understand that one at all. I'm flattered and touched when someone adds me.
That's one of the few things I dislike about LJ...all the friend's list angst/drama/politics. :P
Oh, I feel the same way! I like it best when they add me first. Big ego boost - "oooh, this person stumbled across my writing and liked it!" But yeah, makes me feel lame to not get added back. :(
I've never had anyone get offended. I've had a few people just ignore my comments, and I just unfriend them when that happens...
I agree it is addicitive. But just think, you'll meet me in person at DragonCon. What more could you want? ;)
Prior to LJ I met new people like once a year, when the new post-docs appear. This is a feast for me. Drag me out of my hobbit physicist mode. (oh wait I mean hermit... LOTR is too deeply imbedded in my subconscious)
I just don't understand how you read the posts of that many people. I have trouble keeping up already. I don't dare add anymore just now.
Speaking of physicists, the Smithsonian Institution has several openings right now for astrophysicists. www.si.edu, go to Careers. Just thought I'd mention it in case you know anyone hunting for work. I thought of you immediately when I read the listings yesterday.
Cool that you're coming to D*C, too! Last year was very fun.
what I meant to say was, sometimes my email server gets funky and I don't receive my messages. You may not be able to email me directly, but mfree@livejournal.com would probably get around that.

Friends-list etiquette is weird. :)

I'm able to read all of those posts for one main reason - work is slow. Work is really, really, really slow.
