Good morning, all... hello to new friends [livejournal.com profile] nukewolf, who added me randomly, and [livejournal.com profile] wolvy, who added me back after I added her (kept seeing her post in my friends' journals! :) )

Tonight's [livejournal.com profile] yendi's writing night, so I'm hanging out with [livejournal.com profile] mousegrrl. At the mall. We need clothes. And I need to exchange one of my new bras; they gave me a 36D instead of a 34D. Wrong drawer.

So yes. Mall. With a girl. Weird. We were actually discussing this, Mouse and I, this whole girl-thing thing, and we've decided that we can accept doing Girly Things because we're not typical girls.

I am exhausted. Was very tired all night last night, but still didn't get to sleep til after 11. Not enough sleep. So I'm sucking down the caffeine in an attempt to get to feeling capable of going through my day.

Violent Femmes concert tomorrow night! Who's going, and where are we meeting?

Girly stuff is fun. Have fun!

The Femmes are touring? Holy carp am I out of touch. I saw them once years ago and it was a pretty amazing experience.

Are you in Atlanta? They'll be here tomorrow as part of the Downtown Rocks series of free concerts! Otherwise, I'm sure they have a website with tour info...

Nope, I'm in CT. I'll have to check out their site. Thanks.

Why is being girly a bad thing??? I've been trying to figure this out for a while (not just because of this post). I *like* doing girly things sometimes and why is that so wrong?!
Thursday, July 25th, 2002 06:38 am (UTC)
See, I've just never *been* girly... I don't polish my nails, I don't wear "pretty" things, I don't have "girls' night out"...

Yeah, no, I mean, I know that. And I don't do that stuff often, but you're not the only one of my friends who says stuff like that. While it's not a huge aspiration of mine to be all-out girly, I tend not to think of it that much. Or maybe it's just because I wear dresses and dress suits a lot, I just don't notice it as much. It's just an integral part of being.

I always thought it was weird that people differentiated the "girls night" versus "boys night" stuff until I met people who did it regularly, and then it sort of dawned on me why it happened. See, all along, I was the girl in a group of guys, so a "boys night" would only exclude me, and then later, the girlfriend of one or the other, which is why it dawned on me. But I really think the gender specific nights are to provide a break from couples, a time to relax, vent, sympathize, talk *without* the other half. Because many people do behave differently around their SOs, or the friend does, for any number of reasons.

Umm... sorry, I just sort of went on a tangent there. :)

I love malls.

But then again, I am often accused of being girly... and usually plead guilty.

BTW, [livejournal.com profile] karmaryllis and I are down for the Femmes.. where do you suggest convenient to MARTA, and what time? (I have no clue... too recent a transplant.)

Wanna come to the mall with us tonight?

I'm a recent transplant m'self... [livejournal.com profile] yendi will have to think up a meeting place.

I like malls. You can counteract the girly factor by making a beeline for WOTC when you get into the mall, and if you spend too much time (~>600 seconds) in a shoe store, go find the store with all the knives. If there's a sporting goods section in your chosen mall, looking at non-girly sports stuff can help too. Don't even think about looking at the big mall map, and if you can find a video game, you are in business.

I get really amused at malls. They are such fun places to people watch.
I have no problems with doing girly stuff. I don't do it as often as some of my friends would like, but it's sufficient for me.
I generally don't have problems doing manly stuff either. I just don't have many chances to do so since others are frequently willing to do those. (<lj user="cindygerb") does many of them.)
