Lillian Vernon is tempting me. They're giving a set of three Halloween candlesticks free with online orders placed by August 1. Thing is, though, the only thing I really need from there is the personalized beanbag chair (Elayna's only Chanukah request so far), and that's going to be impossible to store - I want to wait til the last minute to get it! Will have to peruse catalogs.

Y'know, Miss Kid is terribly smart - by concentrating on only one thing that she really really wants, she's pretty much guaranteed to get it. I can't decide if she's just logical and reasonable, or if she's using her logic and reason to be sneaky (if I only request one baby gerbil, they'll let me keep it!). Hm.

So! Today. The fabulous [livejournal.com profile] metaphorge and [livejournal.com profile] mousegrrl are coming over to brainstorm layout and stuff for shayara.com (I've already provided the content). I'm not the webmonkey or the artist, man, I just write.

Which reminds me of something I was thinking of on my morning walk... sometimes I'm just incredibly envious of [livejournal.com profile] mousegrrl, because I feel sometimes like she's ultimately going to get more credit for Shayara than I am. It's a lot harder to evaluate my writing than it is to appreciate her incredible art. I'm really lucky to be working with her, though, and I'm sure this is just a momentary twinge, and people will start noticing my writing when we start coming out with whole issues and not just character sketches and summaries.

So. Yes. Shayara.com. [livejournal.com profile] metaphorge has graciously offered to pitch in and do this for us, and I'm incredibly grateful. And that is what I will be doing today.

::fierce hugs::

look back through the history of comic books -- who are the people most remembered on the creative team? the writers. that's the case to this day. artists come and go, sometimes with alarming frequency, but the story is what keeps people coming back. the best artists are the ones who know this, and whose work serves to visually interpret the story and transmit it to the reader in the best way possible. the art and the story merge together so that the art becomes transparent to the story being told.

that's all i'm doing -- transmitting the story that's been in your head since you were 14. in the end, you will be the one most remembered. i'm just the art monkey; the vision of Shayara is yours. don't ever forget that.

You are *so* not "just an art monkey"! I absolutely could not be doing this without you, with anyone *but* you....

Hee! Love the icon. Yes, you can be a monkey, but you're not *just* a monkey. :)

That is *too* cute. Heh.

surely someone local there could store this beanbag chair... no?

Nah, that'd be too easy.

Dunno. Maybe. I have more storage space than most of my friends (I have a house, they have apartments), but I also have an inquisitive child...

well, i've got that big walk-in closet thingy in my room -- nobody goes in there, and it's blocked off from the rest of the room [at present, because the door's broken off its hinges and i don't want the cats in there]...

Ooooh, that's right! *bounce* Cool!

I don't know, I mean, I took away an obsession for both Dave McKean and Neil from Sandman(the first comic I ever read). But the fact is, I'll buy just about anything that Neil writes, but I won't necessarily buy Dave's stuff sight unseen. Ha! Get it, he's an artist? Uh, never mind.

In any case, I think at least equal recognition.
