Lillian Vernon is tempting me. They're giving a set of three Halloween candlesticks free with online orders placed by August 1. Thing is, though, the only thing I really need from there is the personalized beanbag chair (Elayna's only Chanukah request so far), and that's going to be impossible to store - I want to wait til the last minute to get it! Will have to peruse catalogs.
Y'know, Miss Kid is terribly smart - by concentrating on only one thing that she really really wants, she's pretty much guaranteed to get it. I can't decide if she's just logical and reasonable, or if she's using her logic and reason to be sneaky (if I only request one baby gerbil, they'll let me keep it!). Hm.
So! Today. The fabulous
metaphorge and
mousegrrl are coming over to brainstorm layout and stuff for shayara.com (I've already provided the content). I'm not the webmonkey or the artist, man, I just write.
Which reminds me of something I was thinking of on my morning walk... sometimes I'm just incredibly envious of
mousegrrl, because I feel sometimes like she's ultimately going to get more credit for Shayara than I am. It's a lot harder to evaluate my writing than it is to appreciate her incredible art. I'm really lucky to be working with her, though, and I'm sure this is just a momentary twinge, and people will start noticing my writing when we start coming out with whole issues and not just character sketches and summaries.
So. Yes. Shayara.com.
metaphorge has graciously offered to pitch in and do this for us, and I'm incredibly grateful. And that is what I will be doing today.

look back through the history of comic books -- who are the people most remembered on the creative team? the writers. that's the case to this day. artists come and go, sometimes with alarming frequency, but the story is what keeps people coming back. the best artists are the ones who know this, and whose work serves to visually interpret the story and transmit it to the reader in the best way possible. the art and the story merge together so that the art becomes transparent to the story being told.
that's all i'm doing -- transmitting the story that's been in your head since you were 14. in the end, you will be the one most remembered. i'm just the art monkey; the vision of Shayara is yours. don't ever forget that.

In any case, I think at least equal recognition.
