In case any of you haven't seen the ashcan, the preview issue, yet, here it is. This is a half-inked rush job (so imagine how great the Real Thing is going to be!) that we hurried out in time for MegaCon in March. Originally, the final page of the ashcan was going to lead right into the first page of Issue #1, but I know I can do better than this for an intro - so issue #1 is going to be Shawn (sketched by Mouse in an earlier post here) entering Shayara. He'll actually walk through a few of the scenes in the ashcan, though.

Comments and questions are welcome, as always.

*beam* Thanks! :) And like I said, that was a rush job - and it was my first writing in eight years. So the rest of the series is going to be ever so much better...

very nice.

Kinda reminds me of the human/minbari relationship...
Looking forward to more! :)

Hmmm... never thought of that. Someone else (I hate to admit that I forgot who) compared it to the diaspora of the jews... I dunno. I have all of the pop culture stuff in the back of my head, it's going to seep in from time to time...

I've been wanting to see Shayara for a while now. Good stuff.

The art is beautiful (tho' on page 16, second panel, the left arm of the woman with the tray in the foreground looks funny =:) ). The story telling is very well done. There's a bit too much exposition during storytime for me - I like getting little snippets of information as I go along, rather than getting it all at once, but things pick up once the other people come in and start talking about political things. The zoom-in on the first few pages is lovely, it makes me jealous.

I'm guessing you guys are influenced by things like Elfquest and Finder? What I see here so far reminds me of both, tho' less brash than Elfquest and less bewildering than Finder.

Can't wait to see the rest of the story. =:) You'd better believe I'll be buying your trade paperbacks.

Look in my memories section! Tons of info there. :) The arm on the waitress will get fixed in inking.

I agree on the exposition front - what I've ended up doing is spreading the info gradually through the first few issues, now. Like I said, this was a total rush job, as we were submitting to Oni - wanted to cram as much info in as possible! It's going to be more subtle in the actual series.

And yeah, I *love* that zoom-in. Mouse and I literally spent hours mapping out the city, *just* so we could get that zoom-in - I wanted it to be cinematic, a long tracking shot, and Mouse pulled it off beautifully.

And I'm honored by the comparison; yes, we love both Elfquest and Finder, though Mouse actually didn't discover Finder until after her pencils on the ashcan were done! It's just the way Mouse draws - the simplicity of the lines.

Thanks for the feedback! :)
