If they attempted serious brainwashing, it was apparently wildly unsuccessful - at dinner, she gave a little *squee!* and bounce. Mom asked what that was for, and she aid, "I'm just so happy to be back in Atlanta!"
So. Yes. Went to school to pick up the Girl Scout display and signup sheet. Not only did the other troop leader (the one I bitched about all last year) not manage to sign *anyone* up on her own, but she left the list on a totally different table. *So* glad I have my own troop this year...
Went to the mall. Had dinner. Got Miss Kid her &^%&%(*^(*^ school uniform stuff. I'm still scowly about that. Had really shitty customer service to start with at The Children's Place, which was a first - Dad and I asked the guy at the register to check in the back for a white shirt in size small, and he refused. Said everything they had was out. Which is *never* true in retail. I asked if he was certain, as people usually check for us in the back and invariably find what they're looking for. He was sure. I was quietly fuming. So we grabbed a medium and an XS and headed to the dressing room. I was muttering all the way about how this guy was just lazy, not checking, and that I was writing a letter to corporate (hey, this is what I do when I'm seething with futile hostility, I mutter imprecations), when another guy (who turns out to be the manager) pops his head out from the back. I smile sweetly and show him the shirt and ask politely if he could see if there were any smalls in the back. He agreed to do so instantly, and went and did so. There were none. But, see, that's all I wanted, for someone to *look*. So from that point onward (as the manager probably heard me muttering and saw me glaring), we got *excellent* service - the manager was actually eavesdropping at points! "Oh, I can call that store. If they have that, I can have them hold it for you!" and when I brought up a pair of pants to see if they had another pair in a 6, "Oh, I already sent him back to look - heard you guys talking." So okay. I ended up grudgingly pleased.
Then went to Express, as they'd just sent me a $15 off coupon. I figured I could get a shirt on clearance or something. Tried on a bunch of stuff... Mouse, you need to go there, they have GAF black tulle-and-ribbon skirts! But not in my size. :( Ended up with two adorable gypsyish shirts, one in a dark pink/tan, one in burgundy swirls, both with lovely princessy witchy cuffs. $40 each. Can't afford $65 in shirts this week, man. Mom got sick of watching me agonize and handed me a $20. Okay, $45 is closer to my budget. Well, it turns out that if you go over $75, the coupon doubles. So I got $30 off, not $15. So after that and Mom's $20, I got the shirts for $30something.
Got home to find a shipment from Westfield Comics - and my new Invader Zim bookbag! It is sooo cool. I am so the rockingest mom on the block. I showed Elayna. She said, "Omigod, I *love* it! Wait - is that for you or for me?"
Now I'm just waiting on my black brocade maryjanes from Pyramid Collection, and I'll have All New Stuff....

retail.
In our store it is, these days, but only because our shipments have been small and sad for a couple of years now. But it's still good form to check, even if you know you don't have it....

This is a children's clothing store... and I have a friend who worked at this chain a few years ago, and was in their back room, and it's stocked. And I know they're superstocked due to back-to-school...
But yeah, I understand if they're out - I just want him to go look and make sure. Because *every other time* I've asked someone to do so in this store, they come back with the item I wanted.

But your clerk was a cad. First rule of customer service is you do everything you can to get the people to the product. Including telling them where to go if you haven't got what they want.
God, I am SUCH a sales drone... =:)

Coolness
So, will we get to see pictures of the shirts? I realize that I won't get pictures of *you* in the shirts but just the shirts would be nice...

So, where exactly did you get the Zim Gear? And what was the correct answer--was it for Miss Kid or Miss Mom? :-)
I need more cartoon gear in my life. I'm at risk of falling into corporate drone-dom. Should have snagged Daria swag when it was out there....I'm such a mix of Daria and Jane (disaffected, cynical, snarky, but with delusions of being artistic).
Maybe I ought to start sporting some of my extensive button collection on my turquoise Eagle Creek briefcase.

Well, she just got a Spongebob lunchbag. So we're even.
Re:
Used to watch PowerPuff Girls a lot (of course!), and frequently watched Courage the Cowardly Dog with Then-RoommateBoy. Problem with PowerPuff stuff is that it's too ubiquitous. I shall have to go in search of Zimstuff.
