i've seen From Dusk Til Dawn, i think -- that was the George Clooney vampire movie, right? who was he in that? [i barely remember any of it, apart from it was like very bloody and had lots of nekkidity...]
Rodriguez is the director, yes. He's kind of a Mexican John Woo. Desperado is great. El Miriachi I haven't seen, but apparantly it's basically Desperado on a smaller budget. Spy Kids got good reviews. From Dusk till Dawn sucked majorly, but that's just my opinion.
El Mariachi was great - the only reason I prefer Desperado is because of my massive crush on Salma Hayek. Spy Kids was great. From Dusk Till Dawn was schlocky fun, not great art. The Faculty was a predictable-yet-fun horror flick, which had Jon Stewart in it. Rodriguez keeps casting my crushes. :)
I'm not overly enthused by that theme, but I'm mostly coming for the company anyway. p'raps we'll come up with a better one by then. (what happened to "future Bruce Willis" like we were going to do last time?)
We could do future Bruce Willis... but the first film has to be appropriate for Elayna, and I can't think of a Future Bruce film that fits the criteria, so I was thinking Robert Rodriguez, because of Spy Kids. And that way we'd have a continuous theme.
Movie Nights at my place are so much fun! We do a theme, and we have to allow a few hours at the beginning for just talking and hanging out and walking up to get ice cream, and then we all puppypile all over the floor and couch to watch movies. It's about the company as much as it's about the movies...
When I still worked at the video store we used to do theme nights for what we would play while we worked.. the usual stuff by director and by actor.. but we also used to do stuff like "Movies rated over PG but shouldn't be" and "Expensive Flops"
"Movies that cost over $100 million but just aren't that good" was a favourite.. since there are just SO MANY
Otherwise we would put on 5th element and just watch it over and over again

El Mariachi, Desperado, From Dusk 'Till Dawn, The Faculty. We don't have the last two on DVD, alas.

Another good reason to avoid that movie is the presence of Quentin Tarantino--bad enough as a director, but here he's trying to act. And he can't.
He's also trying to act in Desperado, but he's in less of that.

oh, is he a director then? [i really don't know...]

You too, huh? :) I also like his friends who show up at the end--literally, the Miriachi band from Hell.

I didn't know he did the Faculty. That still strikes me as an odd idea--aliens invade . . . our high schools!
