I have given over the reins.

Yeah, I'm busy... but the primary reason is that, since I can't drive, I can't get to places; I'd rack up hundreds of dollars in taxi rides to go to tastings and to interview florists, etc.

And [livejournal.com profile] yendi's mom said she'd pay for the whole wedding if we had it in Scottsdale, AZ, where she lives.

So! Wedding is in Scottsdale! For reasons of, well, she's paying. And because this is her son's wedding - he's an only child, she's a Jewish mother. And she's retired and thus has unlimited time to do this stuff, whereas I'd only have an hour or two a week.

It will probably be held at CopperWynd Resort, which looks quite posh.

Yes, she'll be consulting with me on stuff - but in general, I'm perfectly happy to leave the bulk of it to her.

Which means that I will actually be able to have the reception I want to, here in GA! The big potluck house party! I'm not formal. I just want to hang out with my friends at my wedding reception, y'know?

So. Yes. There you have it.

Are you going to be able to get your deposit back on the original reception site you chose?
Thursday, June 17th, 2004 07:01 am (UTC)
Dunno - see, they never charged the card!

*gigglefit*

me who hasn't eaten yet: ooooh pretty! *clicky the sample menu*
menu: YUMMY THINGS
me: ! *drools helplessly*
me: *decides to go to wedding for this food*

now, is it just me, or is it entirely wrong for the sudden desire to go to a wedding be almost exclusively for the food?

really. *wanders off to eat*

Hee!

The food is mostly a [livejournal.com profile] yendi thing; he's a huge foodie! And so's his mom. So I have faith that the food will be most excellent.

that's good. *has a full tummy now* yay food!

This is why I can never make plans. :P

Next you'll be having it on the moon, with the Rings of Saturn as the reception band...

I think you Shadesonged CopperWynd's website.
Thursday, June 17th, 2004 07:27 am (UTC)
Dude!
Thursday, June 17th, 2004 07:19 am (UTC)
Congrats!

So I take it you and [livejournal.com profile] yendi will be making a trip to AZ soon to apply for the marriage license since both of you need to be present to apply and since the license has to be issued by the state in which the marriage is performed? Sounds like a lot of traveling!

Right now I'd love to be in AZ. Too freaking humid here... Have a drink of air. My fingers are literally sticking to the keys.

I'm sure we can do it the weekend of the wedding...
Thursday, June 17th, 2004 07:31 am (UTC)
I would call and check with the court clerk first.

I second this sentiment.
My research has uncovered some states requiring a 48 hour waiting period (you have to wait at least 48 hours after applying for the license to get married)or a #of days limit (you must get married with X days of getting license or it's void).
Marriage laws are very strange and I will never get married in SC due to their Marriage regulations. It's amazing what you uncover about states when you're researching something like this!

(10 weeks and counting for me!!)

Money is a powerful motivator.
Thursday, June 17th, 2004 07:46 am (UTC)
Hell yeah, baby. I'm broke.
Thursday, June 17th, 2004 07:49 am (UTC)
I don't blame you a bit for handing it over to Mrs. [livejournal.com profile] yendi's Mom. I personally couldn't do it, but that's just me.

*shrug* I've done a wedding before. And I'm not going to be able to have the wedding I want, the simple backyard affair, so...
Thursday, June 17th, 2004 08:17 am (UTC)
That sounds like an excellent solution.
Thursday, June 17th, 2004 08:24 am (UTC)
I told her that I really appreciate it. Which I do.

I did the same thing. Handed over the whole wedding to S.'s mother. It was the most beautiful wedding, probly better than I could have done (I'm not that, well, girly, ya know? I would have had black and white and silver, but she went with, with my approval of course, burgundy and silver, and it kicked ass, plus she found a great place in Northern England so we got married in a castle!).

I got all the creative input without the hassle of calling up and checking out people. It was a good decision for me, and I'm sure will be for you too! She even went and had an afternoon just to taste all the wine!

Wonderful! The more celebration, the better. *And* paid for is always nice. :)

That sounds like the perfect solution! :)

This does not seem to be the wedding that you always wanted. This seems to be another mother doing your wedding for you.

Naturally, in your own home, you could have had untold people visit you from your journal friends list, but how many can go to Arizona?

Are you sure you wouldn't rather delay the wedding until you can handle it yourself, and get what you want, rather than have Yendi's mother handle it entirely?

Having said that, knowing the place she has chosen?
I want to get married there.

All sides have an argument.

*shrug* The only reason we're not eloping is so she can see her son have A Real Wedding...

Naturally, in your own home, you could have had untold people visit you from your journal friends list, but how many can go to Arizona?

This actually makes it much easier. We simply weren't going to be able to have *all* of our friends if we did a formal-ish wedding in ATL - and where do you draw that line? Too many people... with the AZ thing, we invite very few people, and then we have a big reception in ATL.

Are you sure you wouldn't rather delay the wedding until you can handle it yourself, and get what you want

*shrug* I'm not going to. It's an impossibility. The reception I'll have here will be very close, though.
