I 'splained the seven-week medical double-dipping to my boss...

Boss: "Do you not want to take sick time to help deal with this, physically? Or do you just not have any to take?"

Me: "I really don't have any. The appointments themselves are taking up all of my sick time!"

Boss: "When's your appointment today?"

Me: "Two. I'll eat at my desk to make up an hour, if that's okay..."

Boss: "Sure. Which appointment is this one?"

Me: "General practitioner. The neurologist can't figure out why I'm still losing weight, so they've told me that I need to go to a GP. They did tests on liver, kidney, and thyroid, but they're still stumped..."

Boss: "Well, those are the big ones..."

Me: "Yeah. I'm relieved to know that it's not that."

Boss: "Still... is there a way we could work a little time off to help you get some rest?"

Me: "Well, I've thought of short-term disability - but the semester's about to start."

Boss: "That's right... the timing would be terrible."

Me: "Yep. I mean, I could take lunches at my desk so I could leave early when I need to..."

Boss: "That's not good for you... I don't know. We'll think about this."

Is good that she is concerned.

Sucks that it's so obvious that my body isn't coping.

Ray of hope in the idea of short-term disability... or going part-time (but over 30 hours so's not to lose benefits) for a couple of weeks maybe. Less money, but I'm confident that my parents would help us meet our expenses for a brief time.

It's just... good to know that I don't have to Iron-Man it all day, that my issue is acknowledged and assistance is being considered.

And she's a little freaked out that they have me on so MUCH medicine. "Have they weighed you? Don't they understand how small you are? That's so much medicine!"

Is there any possibility that some of your work could be done from home? You'd still be working, but you wouldn't have to be "on" for the public.

Not really. AP letters are coming up, and that *could* be done from home - but I'm not at the front desk when I'm doing that, so it isn't really an issue.

Well drat. Sorry!

What about the Family Medical Leave act? Anything in there that could help you out as afar as being able to take time off and not be penalized about it?

FMLA is unpaid leave! Disability is 60% of salary.

and FMLA only states that they can't fire you because you want to take some time off for those reasons. fwiw.

I'm just glad she's aware and sympathetic. That's a big advantage for you. She knows you're not faking, and she's not going to come down on you for that. *hugs* I hope you can work something out, even if it's immediately after the hellacious beginning of the semester.

Oh, she saw what happened to me when I started on the Lamictal. She knows. And she's been very concerned about the weight loss this whole time...

The weekend after the semester starts, after all of the first-week stuff is smoothed out, I'm off to Boston for a weekend with Master. That will help.

Where do you work? I have gotten some ideas from your posts, but not exactly sure.

That's one of those things that isn't given out for privacy reasons. I believe the usual nickname of the place is "Coca-Cola University".

I didn't mean the exact University but I was not even sure it was a university. I got the impression it was a school and maybe the computer department.
