Yes, this is how today is going to look, at least until lunch, no time for meaningful posts as I am trying to keep Elayna from bugging the department. Which consists of lots of "Indoor voice, please!". Which is difficult, since she doesn't really have an indoor voice. She makes up for her lack of height with Sheer Presence and a very. loud. voice.

She just spilled a bag of sunflower kernels. All over the floor.

She's in the computer lab with Mike.

So far, she's doing well. The only real problem is that, due to the acoustics of this building, her voice can be heard all up and down the hall. Which is driving me nuts, as I just *know* someone's going to complain.

One more hour. This can be done.

I have a Bad Feeling about sending Elayna to the Y for daycare next week.

I have learned to trust my Bad Feelings.

So now we need childcare coverage for Friday, Monday, and Tuesday.

I want [livejournal.com profile] kellinator to call us.

*whine*

Just got a call from my sister: "Dad was in a car accident."

That's it. "Dad was in a car accident." Full stop.

Me: "Omigod, is he okay?"
Her: "Yeah, he'll be fine."
Me: "Okay - you need to say that FIRST. Before 'Dad was in a car accident.' Or at least in the same sentence!"

So she passed the phone to Mom, and between Mom and Dad, I got the story. Dad had been headed north on I-75 to Naples this morning to assist in a surgical procedure... cruising along at 75 mph in the right lane. Quiet day, not many people on the road. And suddenly, it felt like his car exploded around him. He managed to get out of the car, and at first thought it was a hit and run, because he couldn't see the other car anywhere - a couple who'd pulled over pointed the other car out to him. Across the median. Upside down.

Dad turned to look at his (brand new) car. Totaled. The trunk was smashed up into the backseat. The backseat was gone. A few inches more, and the wreckage would've pinned him against the wheel. Just a few inches.

The policemen estimated that the other car rammed Dad's car from behind at 90-100 mph, probably closer to 100. Two "kids" in the car (anyone under 40 is a kid to Dad). Driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel. Both survived.

Just a few inches. It's a miracle the gas tank didn't ignite. Mom said she felt physically ill when she saw the car.

Dad's left knee is All Fucked Up; his orthopedist will take a look at it tomorrow.

It is a miracle that I didn't lose my daddy today.

And my sister's ass is *so* kicked next week.

I'm shaking. I am just so not ready to be without my dad.

Hell, I'll never be ready to be without my dad.

Kelly can't watch Elayna at all.

So. In lieu of a miracle, I have to have her at work on Friday, Monday, and Tuesday.

Shit.

This is not going to go over well.
