It appears that I am now getting all of the sleep that I didn't get last week.

Must go now have coffee, be sociable. At least Elayna managed to get up and dressed without waking us. And her book is missing, so she's hopefully been reading...

And, for those not lucky enough to have been here: downtown DeLand is very like downtown Stars Hollow.

A while back, bunches of us did that "what's your ideal place to live" meme. For me, it spat out a bunch of smallish towns in Oregon.

But I will tell you - this is where I want to be.

DeLand is a small town. It's a small town next to America's oldest surviving spiritualist community. It has two metaphysical shops (and a comic/used books shop) on Main Street alone. It's a small town half an hour away from Daytona Beach, an hour away from Orlando - all the city-type stuff is accessible.

One of the few ways in which my wiring diverges from Zan's: I don't like cities. Too empathic, maybe - I hate crowds, I hate traffic, I hate the anger and short-temperedness and hostility of cities and the people who live in 'em. I recognize the necessity of having city-type things like museums and whatnot, but I don't need to access them every day...

I like small towns. I like the closeness. The friendliness. The feeling of welcome, of Home, that cities will never do for me...

I'll probably end up living here, eventually. In a little house near the library, maybe, working maybe there or at the university and writing. And gardening and painting and being a witchy momma cat lady.

Dinner. Friday. I need suggestions! We'll be going to Universal Studios or Islands of Adventure during the day, so somewhere near the parks would be ideal! Post suggestions in comments, we'll vote via poll tomorrow?

Am typing in the dark. Miss Kid is asleep in here.

Set out all of the Christmas gifts. This is truly insane. Wish I had a camera. Truly, this family has more money than sense - but I benefit from it as well, so who am I to complain?

I had merlot. And helped wrap presents.

I had umm, a bit of merlot. Heh. So the presents may not be wrapped as tidily as they ought to be.

Santa is also very good to these kids. The boys' big gift: a foosball table. Not a K-Mart foosball table, man, a professional-grade foosball table, real wood, etc. Elayna's gifts from Santa include the Hot Wheels Octoblast track, a Polly Pocket set, sidewalk paints, stationery, about three shitloads of candy, a fortune-telling waterball, a pixy-stick factory... damn, I forget what else. Tons of stuff. And that's just from Santa. Oh, yeah, also two books, a SpongeBob DVD and keychain... umm, and more stuff. Just from Santa. She has even more stuff under the ree, from us and Judy and the boys and Butch and MaryAnn, and my Big Fat Greek Family is coming over tomorrow or we're going there (MaryAnn is Greek. The family? Very Greek, but uppercrusty Greek). So more presents there. Likely anoter porcelain doll from Great-great-aunt Urania. Yes.

Okay. I sleep now. The kids are under orders not to wake us til 6:30, but we'll see how that works out...
