(Here again, a snippet of something that I need to get back on track on - [livejournal.com profile] placesyouhaunt, the Vegas Tam Lin retelling.)

I don't go to the edge of the desert much. No one does. It's like there's a magic circle, a forcefield, a faerie ring, that circumscribes Las Vegas. Not just the Strip - all of Vegas.

Something that protects us.

The desert is vast beyond anything I could have imagined back east - vast, and dry in a way that tests the limits of the word. Standing on the edge of the desert, you can feel it pull the moisture from your body. From your very cells. From your blood.

You can feel the desert suck your youth from the marrow of your bones.

It sounds melodramatic, but look around. Either the desert absorbs youth and spirit like condensation, like morning dew, or time here moves differently. People here get older quicker. The light in the eyes doesn't last as long.

It's part of the price.

What was Kellen doing?

They say that what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. Well, what happens in the desert stays in the desert. Bodies beyond number, bones blasted white and brittle, never to be found. It's its own kind of sacred.

Almost seven years ago, Crystal turned her back on her baby and on the city and walked out into this desert, walked out into death.

I need to know why.

I think the snotty brain-dead bitch who never returned my calls or passed my messages on to my neurologist got fired! That phone number now leads to a voicemail message from someone else directing patients of my neuro to a different secretary.

Yes, she could've just left. But I choose to believe she was fired for being a snotty brain-dead bitch.

In other news, I have made an appointment for August 15 and communicated my desire to change medications. I'm on my last refill of Trileptal. I do not want any more Trileptal.

EDIT: And... aii. I have four straight weeks of doctors! Mammogram next week, Elayna's middle-school checkup and immunizations the week after, and opthalmologist the week after that, and neuro and primary care the week after *that*. Then it's two weeks without. Then cardiologist.

Elayna does not know she's getting shots. Poor pook. My parents told her she'd be seeing a doctor, but they leave the needle revelation to me... I'll tell her tonight, and tell her she ought to make a list of any questions she has re: puberty and stuff.
