Went to karate.... karate was closed. This is the one thing that really ticks me off about her dojo... they're sometimes just inexplicably closed, and they don't put up a sign or anything, so we end up waiting to see if the sensei is just running late. For tunately, there was a teenage black belt waiting as well, and he ran the kids through a quick session, at which point we were off to Burger King.
Got to Burger King. The woman behind the counter spies the little bit of Elayna's face that shows over the counter and apologizes for not having any kids' meals yet, as it's 10 til 11... and offers her a free slushie for the inconvenience. We thank her profusely and wander to the pet shop across the way to kill 10 minutes.
Ohmygods - the pet shop has lab/chow mixes up for adoption. $75/each, and 10% off neutering, and $35 in store credit if you bring them proof of neutering. Three of them. Gorgeous, friendly, sweet animals - one pale gold, two black. I want one. I want one *so* bad. I will do anything for one of these dogs. Anything. You hear me,
yendi ?
I reluctantly part ways with my future pet and its siblings, and we go to Burger King. We have our usual meals, plus the free slushie (that was so nice of them!). Elayna got a Rocket Power toy that'll get "lost" in a few weeks. She finishes eating, and it's off to Toys R Us.
Toys R Us will not accept the videogame back, even though it's shrinkwrapped. We successfully return the Barbie car and board game, though, and happily prowl the aisles. Dude. George Lucas named a character "Fisto". So. Wrong. *giggle* Elayna eventually settles on an ET toy that recites facts about every planet in the solar system. Not just "Jupiter has a red spot!", either - this thing tells her diameter, distance from the sun, length of days and years, numbers and names of moons.... it's a good toy. :)
Quick visit to PetSmart. Elayna wants a bird. There is no way in hell she's ever getting a bird. I don't trust the little buggers. I was attacked at Parrot Jungle as a kid. No, I am not joking. The rodent section wasn't all that full, but Elayna amused herself by examining each and every fish, while Adam and I surreptitiously checked out aquarium prices. Because, y'know, we don't have enough pets in the house.
Next stop, The School Box! A school supply store. I love it. We picked up two "bridging" workbooks for her for this summer. Those things are so lowest-common-denominator, though - we had to get the third-to-fourth grade books, because the lower levels were insultingly simple. Also got her two placemats - the solar system, and division problems. She actually picked those out herself.
Finally, Children's Place (http://www.childrensplace.com/). Our haul: denim capri pants with heart-shaped pockets, short-sleeved yellow-and-blue shirt that says "(: happy girl :)", multicolored plaid skirt, blue tank top with a rainbow, shamrock, pot of gold, and the word "charmed" glitterprinted on it, red-and-white plaid shorts, white tank top with red-and-white plaid strawberries and ribbon on the shoulders, blue-and-white plaid shorts, blue tank top with blue-and-white plaid flowers and ribbon on the shoulders. Total cost: $114.37. Minus $20-off-$40 coupon, minus $20-off-$40 coupon handed to me by the woman in front of us in line (her purch ase was too small to use it)= $74.37. Minus $37.91 left over on one gift card, minus $35 from another gift card= $1.46. Yep. $1.46. I love gift cards and coupons. And I still have a $150 gift card that I haven't touched!
edie22 , wanna come shopping with me in June? Planning to buy her camp wardrobe there so I don't have to pack it. :)
So. Finally home. Killer headache.... currently medicating with Excedrine and Frappucino. Trying to decide whether to watch more Sailor Moon S on DVD, or something on TiVO, or read more of "The Mother Trip" by Ariel Gore. I shall go ask Adam.
Tomorrow: RenFaire!
