Feeling better now.... Elayna called me last night! She got my e-mail asking her to call after karate (her first lesson at the dojo down in FL) to tell me how she liked it.
Well, she liked it. According to her, Shihan Horne stayed in the office, and "two girls and a boy" taught the class - there's a partition behind which testing takes place, and one of the girls tested her.
"To make sure you're really a yellow belt?"
"Yeah. They need to make sure that you really are whatever color belt you're wearing right now."
Which I can see, because she *is* teensy - the height of the average 5-year-old - and looks very young. But she passed the test, of course, and went to class. There were apparently only two other kids around her age there - the rest were preteens and teenagers. And she learned ippons 4 and 5.
She hasn't started camp yet; she's still hanging out with my sister daily. They went swimming. :)
I actually got her to promise to do pages from her workbooks, several per week; we agreed that she'd do a page every night that she doesn't go to karate. I sent her the workbooks today along with her Scholastic book club order... 9 Babysitter's Club books, 3 Girl's Fun Pack books, the Summer Camp set (3 books, 2 activity books, and a diary). The Tarantula in my Purse, two practical joke kits (for fun scaring Grandpa), and a big thick Fun with Science book. Total cost of this package? $20. Gods, I love Scholastic book clubs.
It was a good conversation! She actually stayed on the phone for 15 minutes, which really has to be a record for her. :) So yeah, she's cheered me up somewhat.
