Woke up far too early. Waited in line for an hour for Lilo & Stitch.
It was worth it.
Previews: Powerpuff Girls. Santa Clause 2 (ecch). Treasure Planet, which looks fucking awesome, oh yes it does.
And then Lilo & Stitch.
This is the best Disney movie in I don't know how long. It had a belligerent yet adorable alien. It had really really cool characters. And the message? The message is that alternative family structures rock, essentially. It's about the family you make as much as the family you're born into. I cried. I haven't cried at a movie since Iron Giant, which this kinda reminded me of, in animation style and general feel.
To give you an idea, some dialogue:
Lilo: You got fired from your job because of me and Stitch?
Nani: No, I quit. The manager was a vampire. Wanted me to join his legion of undead.
Lilo, thoughtful: I *knew* it.
So. Yes. I love this movie. You all need to go see it. Several times.
So. Went from there to Barnes & Noble.
yendi had a $75 gift card from his birthday, a $25 giftcard from MyPoints, and $67 worth of returned books (one of which was Elayna's). So we got:
Peter David, "Knight Life"
Lilo & Stitch: The Junior Novelization
Kara Dalkey, "Reunion"
Kara Dalkey, "Transformation" (books 2 and 3 of the Water trilogy)
Chobits manga
Angela Nissel, "The Broke Diaries"
Iain Pears, "The Dream of Scipio"
Charlaine Harris, "Living Dead in Dallas"
Christopher Moore, "Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal"
Ellen Datlow & Terri Windling, "The Green Man: Tales from the Mythic Forest"
Chuck Palahniuk, "Survivor"
Lyda Morehouse, "Fallen Host" (which I already have! Meant to grab "Archangel Protocol". Ah well.)
Martin Greenberg & John Helfers, "Knight Fantastic"
Brad Meltzer, "Dead Even"
Mary Ann Mitchell, "Cathedral of Vampires"
Jane Lindskold, "Through Wolf's Eyes"
David Rackoff, "Fraud"
Total actual expenditure out of our money: $16.02.
It's a *good* day.
Went to Sword of the Phoenix, the gaming store. Which was nerve-wracking - left turn on ^%#&^$ Peachtree. With no light. And the uneven entrance to the parking lot scraped my car. And not only do they pricegouge, but they *ignored* me.
Now, see, I overlook shittier aspects of the store if the proprieter treats me right. Tropic Comics? Shitty store (now out of business), but I never paid retail. Tate's Comics? Not once did Tate get a month's comic order 100% correct - hell, he didn't get it 70% correct most of the time - but I *liked* Tate. Tate liked me. He would pick things out for me to try and have them ready. He even helped Elayna pick out comics.
So no, not expecting to make a new best friend, but you could *look* at me. Say hi. Ask if I need help. And as he didn't even do that, I'm not shopping there. Amazon has that Call of Cthulhu book for $10 cheaper anyway, and we have a giftcard there, which makes it free. For dice and such, I'll have to locate the War Room, y'all seem to like that one.
So, yes! Great day. Which will be even better when we see
dlscanlon again tonight! :)

I won't go in, what's the name of that place? It's a chain and one of the owners is involved with Dragon Con somehow. Titan? Anyway, there's one near Gwinnett Place and several others. I've yet to get any positive acknowledgement of my existence there, and neither have our kids. And I've encountered too many disgusting persons who have absolutely no grasp of "personal hygiene" in their stores the few times I did go in.

And yes, especially since, in most of my relationships, I've been the alpha geek - I will not shop in places that ignore me and speak only to my man. Tate's kept my business because Tate knew I knew more about comics than he did. That, and he always told Elayna when there was a new issue of Looney Tunes or Powerpuff Girls out. :)

Funny thing: as we were checking out, the elderly saleswoman nodded approvingly at it and said, "I need to read this - I love his books!" Just funny in light of Mal's experience attempting to buy "Island of the Sequined Love Nun"...

Some of their people are zeros, some of them are ok. They are no war room, but they do have a good collection of wierd board and card games. Not as good as war room, but some not the same set as war room, so it's worth browsing if you are into that sort of game. Their prices are all over the place, good on some, bad on others.
They are very convenient for me, so I put up with some prices, and I don't go to talk to the staff anyway. I'm either there to look at everything in the store, in which case there's no reason to talk to the desk-troll, or I'm there for one specific thing, in which case there's still no reason to talk to the desk troll. If it's not convenient to you, there's not much reason to go, unless you must have a particular wierd game no one else has. Find a WoTC store in whatever mall is near you.
