That is scary. I'm impressed with the discussion that follows the initial narrative. Well, some of it was stupid, of course, but they really get into the legal issues involved farther down. It was fascinating. Scary, but fascinating.

I've known for quite a while that this was no longer a free country. Politics is one thing that my seriously Fundamentalist Christian ex-husband and I agree on 100%. We're both Libertarians. :)

I actually heard about this on Sunday, and was going to post, but ended up getting distracted.

Just another instance of the President's fragile ego.

There's nothing new under the sun. Clinton did it, his wife still does. Last time Hillary got in front of an un-sanitized audience she got booed, threw a tantrum, and the rabid republicans are still crowing about it. Bush I did it, Reagan did it. Gore would do it if he could. Grooming audiences is basic politics 101.

Ah, but check out the link [livejournal.com profile] yendi posted - apparently, when Clinton spoke at OSU, there were protestors with Dole/Kemp placards... who were allowed to stay there and peacefully protest. Not like this. Students were denied their diplomas and arrested simply for turning around.

Nothing new. Clinton's machine was just as bad as this, despite reports by his supporters that it wasn't. As was Bush the firsts, as was Reagans, a long way back. Clinton was just very good at making it look good. The Bushes have never been real good at subtle and it comes off badly.

"When we got organized as a country and we wrote a fairly radical Constitution with a radical Bill of Rights, giving a radical amount of individual freedom to Americans ...... And so a lot of people say there's too much personal freedom. When personal freedom's being abused, you have to move to limit it."
