Actually I don't like this idea. While I understand the concept, I find that as the day approaches, it's more important to me than ever to connect with those I love. To share with them, because 9/11 was a horrible reminder of how everything can change in a heartbeat, how people can be taken away from you, and how lack of communication can be scarier than seeing video footage of planes flying into buildings full of people.
Besides, who are we sending a powerful message to? To bin-Laden? To say what?
I think it is more important on that day that friends and loved ones stay in touch - through whatever medium works - to remind them they are in our minds and in our hearts.

I agree. I don't see how removing ourselves from each other is sending any kind of a desirable message. I'd rather see people remember the anniversary by getting in touch with people they've fallen out of touch with and letting them know they still remember them and care. The message I want to send to the people who are responsible for the attack is that we care about each other and will not willingly let each other be hurt and that we are strong enough to resist them and not let them destroy us.
I've always felt the idea of a moment of silence to be a powerful one... it was one of the few things I liked about temple. Just taking a moment - or, in this case, a day - to think and to reflect. It takes effort to keep silent, especially for a chatterbox like me! So it would be more of a meditation, for me, that anything else.
Sorry, but I don't agree with this one. I think it is more important to remember those who died by saying a few words for them and maybe putting up your own thoughts. And it's definitely more important to contact those you love and remind them how much they mean to you.
I think that Sept. 11 is the day that we'll really want to connect with each other, especially on a worldwide basis. 9/11 would probably be the day that I'd want to post MOST, to honor those lost and to show that life goes on.
However, I've gotten a couple of emails about a plan where people are going to leave their headlights on all day on 9/11 as a memorial. That works for me. Another moment of silence like the one that was held a week after would be a good idea too.
Actually, I'm not sure what I'll do. I do have planned a post about stuff, stuff I don't tell people, and maybe including an excerpt from what I wrote on TH last year. But I don't know if I'll post it on the 11th or the 10th.
Can tell you this much though, I'm betting on the 11th I'm going to be too busy at work to deal with much on the internet. It's going to be weird on Wall St.
As I mentioned in gridlore's journal, I'm not going to follow through with this. September 11th is cindygerb's birthday and we're going to a really, really good restaurant and then go home and make love as well as fuck...
