Okay, so Elayna is having a Mad Science birthday party. As previously stated, we want to give out CDs of science-themed songs as favors.

You guys had lots of great suggestions.

Please send these songs (songs themselves, not suggestions) to [livejournal.com profile] yendi at alipkin AT gmail.com.

Thank you! *hug*

EDIT: Track listing so far:

"Weird Science", Oingo Boingo
"She Blinded Me With Science", Thomas Dolby
"Jimmy Neutron Theme", Bowling for Soup
"Wakko's Universe", Animaniacs
"Why Does the Sun Shine?", TMBG

The first two are so obvious I won't even bother to mention them.
Tuesday, March 8th, 2005 05:52 am (UTC)
Weird Acience & She Blinded Me With Science, yes.
Tuesday, March 8th, 2005 06:05 am (UTC)
You mentioned them!
Tuesday, March 8th, 2005 07:43 am (UTC)
I am Captain Obvious! *strikes a pose*
Tuesday, March 8th, 2005 05:59 am (UTC)
How about "Einstein the Genius" which has been recorded various times.
Tuesday, March 8th, 2005 06:05 am (UTC)
Haven't heard it - send it on!

It's not as good as the version by Cranberry Lake Jug Band, but it's the best I can do until I find that darned CD. :)

I'll send a few now and comment with a list once I decide and send. At the very least, The Elements by Tom Lehrer, of course.
Tuesday, March 8th, 2005 06:15 am (UTC)
Are space travel songs good, too? Starsoul by Urban Tapestry or Fire in the Sky by Doug Olsen?
Tuesday, March 8th, 2005 06:16 am (UTC)
Sure!
Tuesday, March 8th, 2005 07:39 am (UTC)
Fire in the Sky! \m/
Tuesday, March 8th, 2005 06:16 am (UTC)
Is it kid-appropriate? I don't remember...
Tuesday, March 8th, 2005 06:17 am (UTC)
It is. Don't worry, I'm trying not to send any of my dirtier science songs. Though you should screen them just in case I forgot something anyways, of course.
Tuesday, March 8th, 2005 06:41 am (UTC)
Full list of what I've sent:
The Elements by Tom Lehrer
Starsoul by Urban Tapestry
Lonely Lab of Broken Hearts by Arrogant Worms
Fire in the Sky by Doug Olsen
Pi by Bill Crozier
Witnesses' Waltz by Julie Ecklar
NaCl (Sodium Chloride) by Kate McGarrigle
Entropy by Moxy Fruvous

I probably have more, but now it's time for me to get to class. Hope this helps!
Tuesday, March 8th, 2005 06:45 am (UTC)
Yay, thanks!
Tuesday, March 8th, 2005 01:04 pm (UTC)
Honestly, I don't recall. I discovered them maybe 5 or so years ago.
Tuesday, March 8th, 2005 02:41 pm (UTC)
I actually saw/heard them play at our local university's frosh week. They are pretty cool. My favourite songs are The Last Saskatchewan Pirate and Jesus' Brother Bob.
Tuesday, March 8th, 2005 06:19 am (UTC)
Sweetie, you might want to edit the post to make it clear that they should send the SONGS (in MP3 form), not the suggestions.
Tuesday, March 8th, 2005 06:24 am (UTC)
Um, I thought it was pretty clear, but okay.

Hey! Send me a list of who's paid for cookies, so I can cross 'em off my list!
Tuesday, March 8th, 2005 06:40 am (UTC)
There's "I am a scientist" by the Dandy Warholes. I'm not sure how kid appropriate it is though.
Tuesday, March 8th, 2005 06:41 am (UTC)
That is to say, there might be swearing in it but I can't remember.
Tuesday, March 8th, 2005 06:42 am (UTC)
Sorry, I was one of the absent-minded professor types who sent suggestions. I have an excuse, though, I have no MP3s. Seriously. I don't. Sorry.
Tuesday, March 8th, 2005 06:52 am (UTC)
I don't have the mp3 here at work, but do you want Mammals by TMBG?
(I have it at home)
Tuesday, March 8th, 2005 06:53 am (UTC)
'k. :)
Tuesday, March 8th, 2005 06:56 am (UTC)
Someone else on my flist was collecting geeky songs... [livejournal.com profile] jul3z, I think. The two of you should Combine Forces!

I have "Why Does the Sun Shine?" but it's in AAC, not MP3. If that works for you, say so. If you need MP3 I'll have to re-rip it.
Tuesday, March 8th, 2005 07:37 am (UTC)
Just browse any filk lists for sci-fi or weird science filk. I'd suggest Seven Drunken Nights by Tom Smith, but it might be a little too, uh, raunchy for little ones.
Tuesday, March 8th, 2005 09:08 am (UTC)
I was thinking of Rocket Ride, but it's more SF than science. It's good music, though.
Tuesday, March 8th, 2005 07:41 am (UTC)
I'm not sure if we have "Why Does the Sun Shine?" by TMBG!

We do now -- [livejournal.com profile] crystalline sent it!
Tuesday, March 8th, 2005 07:42 am (UTC)
Yay!
Tuesday, March 8th, 2005 09:17 am (UTC)
go here, there's tabs on the left, click downloads and look for Science Party. I think it might be okay. All of their songs have a sort of comical science theme to them I think, as they're supposedly mad scientists anyway...

Damn. I'd've totally suggested "Mandelbrot Set" by Jonathan Coulton:

http://www.jonathancoulton.com/music/Jonathan%20Coulton%20-%20Mandelbrot%20Set.mp3

except that it contains the immortal lyric "you're one badass fucking fractal."

This should not stop you from hunting up a copy for private listening. Just from putting it where other people's kids can hear it.

I don't have links, but what about either "My love is chemical" (by Lou Reed, on the White Nights soundtrack) -- dunno if it's officially child-safe, though... or this might help:

http://www.sciencesongs.net/

Good luck-- GREAT party idea!

Then there is:

or
http://www.physicssongs.org/

Sorry for not following directions. I also can get you a copy of "Gravity" by alien crooner Sonny Eclipse at Magic Kingdom, WDW, if you like..

(bluesy song)
o/~ Gravity-- let me be!
If it wasn't for you, I wouldn't WEIGH what I do..
Gravity... you're weighing heavy on my mind, all the time..
Gravity, why do you treat me so unkind-- I never did nothin to you!
...
o/~

*grins*

There's another one from that show that's called the Planetary Boogie, all about the planets and the sun and all. Fun stuff.

Let me know, as it will take some digging...
Tuesday, March 8th, 2005 01:25 pm (UTC)
I have "Mammal" a live version of "Why Does The Sun Shine?" if you haven't gotten them already. I also have "Particle Man", "Metal Detector", and "See The Constellation" if they fit what you're looking for.

Would Weird Al's "It's All About The Pentiums" work? Or Steve Martin's "King Tut"? (Hey, archaeology is science). ;)

Of course, I might be too late for all of this. This is what happens sleeping during the day.

P.S. Your CD goes out tomorrow. Been a heck of a weekend here.
Tuesday, March 8th, 2005 07:50 pm (UTC)
"March the Mad Scientist" by Jethro Tull is on its way.
