Ponderous, man. Fuckin' ponderous. Yesterday was difficult. It's hard to make my brain work in a somewhat linear fashion. Did that help any?

metaphorge and xanadumalion (sorry I missed your call, guys - talk tonight?) suggested a closed Wiki at shayara.com to help me organize that info without squeezing my brain in weird ways. I think that that will be good. A Dasaroi Encyclopedia. But in the meantime, did what I did yesterday help you understand the series?

Okay, I confess -- I'm confused. Forgive this rather simplistic breakdown:

The Council is made up of some of our good guys, right? Like Donna and Michael? It seems to have only one bad guy, Jeramie. But the Council decided as a whole to do this shady breeding program to force create a Lishaya, and everyone was okay with that? Then we learn Donna isn't allowed to check if Alanna really IS the Lishaya, even though she's a Council member?

Then later, when Fenris forms the Kirayth -- a rather coup d'etat type move, raising your own army -- the Council is on-hand and doesn't contest it?

And lastly, the Council grows discontent that Michael's House won't pay homage and so the Purges happen... but Michael and Donna are ON the Council, right? Wouldn't they have known?

I'm pretty sure I'm missing something...

Tell me more about the Council then. How did it get formed? Who's in it? Council still exists even after Talthar Kithrayna is dissolved, yes?

Council got formed like a few hundred years ago, to manage the city when there were no or few actual reincarnated Kithrayna about. It wasn't originally a Bad Guy thing, but, y'know, Power Corrupts...

You haven't officially met many of the Councillors. You may've seen casual mention of Janos (who shot Michael and his parents during the Purges), Olivia (helped raise Alanna), of course Stephen (Tessa, Alanna, Katrianna, & Julia's father), and very of course Jeramie... I don't think I've name-checked many others here. Kristian is officially a Councillor, but very on the fringes. The core of the Council doesn't trust him.

Yes, they exist after the Talthar Kithrayna is dissolved; they become the sole power in Shayara, pulling Alanna's strings.

And yep, Jeramie has most everyone fooled. When you're the most powerful telepath alive, playing both sides is easy...

Thank you, thank you for asking this question. I didn't realize that they were two seperate entities - I thought the Council was a subset of the Talthar Kithrayna... or another way of referring to it.

Good question. A clearer picture of life before the Fall, and of course the Fall itself. Would it be silly to do a sort of "incarnation tree" to trace some of the pivotal characters back through time (those that keep coming back)?

I'm sorry to say that you shan't get the Fall itself in a linear fashion.

Life before the Fall, and the Fall itself, you'll see from the perspective of each of the Talthar Kithrayna as we go through the series. Ending with Julia/Tiala. So you'll get it, starting in bits, but you'll eventually get a full picture.

You'll see some of the incarnations of some of the characters.... particular focus on Julia, Kieran, and Ryan. Some focus on the others.You won't get anything like the Book of Numbers in the Bible - "then Tiala begat Alia, and Alia begat..." all the way down to Julia - because that is not my particular brand of insane. :)
