So Adam and I are talking about Elayna getting the iPod Shuffle this morning, and I mention that I cannot hear "iPod Shuffle" without the song "Curly Shuffle" getting triggered in my head.

Adam: "For me, it's 'The Super Bowl Shuffle'."
Me: "Never heard of it."
Adam: "How can you never have heard of it?"
Me, singing off-key: "We're doin' the Curly Shuffle..."
Adam: "We're not here to start any trouble-"
Me: "Soitenly!"
Adam: "We're just here to do the Super Bowl Shuffle!"
Me: "Nyuk nyuk nyuk."
Adam: "Seriously! You've never heard the Super Bowl Shuffle?"
Me: "Dude, I was raised on the Stooges."

Well, I give it to you guys, just out of idle Friday-morning curiosity. When you hear the work "shuffle" in connection with music, which song does it trigger in your brainmeats?

... off to Buffalo. (And then visit Ithaca! ;) Well, if you want. But that's what comes to mind.)
Friday, March 11th, 2005 06:12 am (UTC)
Being raised on BOTH the Stooges AND the ignominious loss of the New England Patriots to the Bears in Super Bowl XX, I wish to say "both."

I never did see the second half of that game, for good reason. As a song though the Curly Shuffle is much more likely for my brain to tap into spontaneously, even though I have both of them kicking around in there.

Living in Chicago, of course the Super Bowl Shuffle.
Friday, March 11th, 2005 06:18 am (UTC)
You're erring on my dialogue. I cited specifics, like "Jim McMahon rapping" and "William 'The Refrigerator' Perry!"

Damn you, after all these years I had successfulyl blotted those images from my memory. Now all those self-administered electroshock treatments were for nothing!
Friday, March 11th, 2005 06:19 am (UTC)
Actually, I think of Harlem Shuffle by the Rolling Stones.
Friday, March 11th, 2005 06:35 am (UTC)
Yeah (yeah yeah), so do I.
Friday, March 11th, 2005 06:45 am (UTC)
The Harlem Shuffle is a great song, but a little bit classier than either of the ones that we were debating.

Maybe it's because I'm from Cincinnati, but I just remember the Icky Shuffle. It was this little dance that a former Bengals player used to do when he scored a touchdown.

Of the two song choices I'd go with Super Bowl Shuffle, but since the two of you are so clearly on the rock, I had to pick that one. There really should have been an option to choose more than one. ;)
Friday, March 11th, 2005 06:39 am (UTC)
The South Side Shuffle. Obviously.
Friday, March 11th, 2005 06:43 am (UTC)
Whad are ya's, a wise guy or 'sumptin'?

..there is only one true kind of shuffle..

Nyuk! Nyuk!
Friday, March 11th, 2005 07:20 am (UTC)
... what came to mind for me was "Doing the *wah wah* [pause] Pigeon."

(could be because we were listening to the Sesame Street multi-disc compilation in the car on Sunday... and yes, the kids were there too, not just the adults.) }:-)

I was in MI when the Superbowl had the Bears, but I'm totally blanking on the SuperBowl Shuffle, though I get the feeling I should know it. Please don't illuminate me. Thanks. *smile*

I get bandstand boogie, personally.

I had completely forgotten about the Superbowl Shuffle. Not that I paid much attention in the first place, not being into football. But it was on MTV, so I watched it. In the case of the Curly Shuffle, I actually had a habit of making cassettes filled with weird songs, or weird collections of different songs, and The Curly Shuffle was definitely in there somewhere.

Love like yours is rare. Very. Rare.
Friday, March 11th, 2005 08:54 am (UTC)
Truly, man.

And y'know what? I'm glad I've been through the relationship shit that I've been through, so I know how lucky I am to have Adam. Seriously. It would suck if we didn't appreciate each other, y'know?

I don't mean it in the snarky way, but I do mean it when I say that you two really do deserve each other. Your daily conversations much be completely impenetrable to strangers.
Friday, March 11th, 2005 12:17 pm (UTC)
Oh, totally! We belong together. No one else could understand us.
Friday, March 11th, 2005 09:06 am (UTC)
Thorazine Shuffle.

The word "shuffle" brings to mind geriatric zombies in oversized hospital pjs and slippers.

Otherwise, I liked "Doing the Pigeon." I think I'll do that to cheer myself up.
Friday, March 11th, 2005 12:18 pm (UTC)
Ah, the Thorazine Shuffle. I remember it well...
Friday, March 11th, 2005 10:04 am (UTC)
You don't have a poll option for "both".
And it does trigger both, alternately.
Friday, March 11th, 2005 10:38 am (UTC)
Ahh, yes. Jump 'n' the Saddle Band and the Bears Shufflin' Crew. Two groups that we Chicagoans would really rather forget about.
Friday, March 11th, 2005 02:00 pm (UTC)
For me, it triggers Springsteen's "E-Street Shuffle"
Friday, March 11th, 2005 02:15 pm (UTC)
Dude, Chunk. Truffle Shuffle.
Friday, March 11th, 2005 04:53 pm (UTC)
The Hot Shoe Shuffle. Colour me old.
Friday, March 11th, 2005 08:17 pm (UTC)
Ya there was the Harlem Shuffle (try the one by the 5.6.7.8's)
and then there was the Resurrection Shuffle (not the one by T. Jones)
but listen you blockheads...it has to be the Curly Shuffle!
