I'm so glad I let my kid join band.

Because she really loves playing the flute.

She'd lost her music stand and book a bit ago, so I hadn't heard her practicing at home as much. Just that medley. But I replaced the book and stand this week, and just... nonstop. Whenever she's not watching TV (which she only gets an hour of per weekend-day), eating, or reading, she is playing that flute.

And she's really good.

And really excited about music.

Well, good!
(On music as an art and its place in life I am biased.)

That's fantastic for her. My best friend plays the flute professionally now and is amazing. There is something about seeing someone become possessed by that energy--you literally see them convert into beauty. It's breath-taking. Makes me wish my mom had not let me quit my piano lessons.

Of course, there is always time, no?

Always time, yes. :)

That's so wonderful. Yay.:)

I played flute for a couple years and absolutely loved it as well.

As I haven't said it lately, I'll say it again ... your daughter rocks like crazy.

Flautists are the bomb. Of course, I say that as one, having started at age 7 and still playing now. *giggles*

Maybe I'll dig though my books and find some of the easy stuff and copy some things to send. Or even some not so easy stuff, so she has something to attain toward! :) Along with the poor penguins that are starting to think that they're going to have to live with me forever and ever.

My parents always insisted we do something related to music or the arts, the way some parents insist on sports. I took violin for eight years, and played the trumpet, the clarinet, and finally the bass clarinet (my favorite) in band. Music lessons gave me a wonderful creative outlet, discipline, and taught me teamwork could produce beautiful things. I miss music quite a bit, or at least, the making of music.

YAY for Elayna!

With luck she can get a few scholarships out of playing flute.

Yay flute :)

I am just learning flute after playing 10 or 11 years of trombone. Fabulous instrument :)

Awesome.

I'm always begging my 12-year-old stepbrother to stay in band, because while it's not exactly "cool," it's something that could be a great thing for him. He's at that age (and grade - just started middle school, ugh) where he's more interested in sports, and that's fine, too... but an injury is a lot less likely to prevent you from playing tenor sax than playing soccer.

Flute! My instrument! Rock! Let me see if I still have any of my old sheet music lying around...
