I read Perdido Street Station a few months ago; it's good stuff. The plot admittedly isn't the best, but the characters are great and the world is fantastic beyond all reason. Mieville is going to be at a convention here in October - it's not a con I'm normally that fond of, but I'm SO going this time. I'm going into full fanboy mode for it as well. :)

Ken McLeod also writes good books and is a nice guy; back when I was in the Dublin University Science Fiction Society (back when DUSFS was any good, that is...) he bought a bunch of us a bottle of whiskey because we were broke at a convention.

Ooohnifty! I shall have to read him. Yes, I pick books to read based on whether the authors are Good People. :)
