I have no idea what to do my 2HC column about.

Yes, it's due tonight.

I am taking suggestions.

Will someone please set me off on a tangent?

how about the fact that they are making all sorts of comic movies...adn whether or not the stick to the actual stories in the comics? (You could always cheese out and write about terry what's her face, but i think that's being beaten todeath else where)

or how about....cheese?

Cheese is good. I like cheese.

The comic book thing I don't have time to do... too much material....

What about the phenomenon of personal myth: why some folks create whole worlds within while others are happy to go about without such a burden/blessing?
Wednesday, March 30th, 2005 04:25 pm (UTC)
ponies, rabid fangirls, your complete denial of being famous, the comic...

Co-tangent.

The Resurgance of cartoons that we watched as children? Transformers, Batman, Justice League aka Superfriends, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

The state of assumed intimacy...things like LJ and IM and Email and phones make it seem like you know someone a million times over before you even meet them, or only after a few in-person meetings. Is it really a good idea to get to know someone through other media besides flesh? Is it really intimacy? How much are we really revealing when we reveal things about ourselves in these types of media.

You could reflect on docorion's recent visit, how you keep in contact, and draw on your experiences iwht people who read your journal and feel they "know" you even though you've never met any of them.

I like the punk idea.

Oh. Flogging Molly. And how fabulous they are.

Or.

The way anonimity of the internet encourages creativity. And poor spelling on my part.

Semantics and creating new words... Squee, Grok, L33t etc.

How those faces you make as a child won't ever stick like you're parents say they will.

Pulling children's teeth.

How everything old is new again- the resurgence of past fads coming again, and how it relates in your life.

I was going to suggest long-distance relationships, but you could certainly tie getting to know people electronically and “assumed intimacy” into that. ([livejournal.com profile] docorion is a good example that getting to know people electronically can work well, and that the intimacy you assume over IM, LJ, etc., is often real.)

If you were feeling a little more like tooting your own horn, you could talk about what it means to be such a social hub online (people meeting through your journal, having as many people who read you as you do, etc.). Or you could write about what it feels like to see Shayara in print.

I am taking this opportunity to read some of your columns. :-) (For anybody reading this who didn’t know, they’re the Set Phasers on Random columns.)

Is is terrible that this actually makes me feel like less of a banana-head?
Thursday, March 31st, 2005 10:46 am (UTC)
Hey, as far as writing articles goes, I'm *ALWAYS* a banana-head.
