Thanks for the poll answers yesterday - they helped. I have a feeling I'll be looking at them a lot today! *whimper*

And. Questions.

What are you wearing?
and
What are you reading?

I'm wearing a burgundy Witchy Pirate Princess Shadesong shirt and jeans, hair actually mostly down (top layer pulled back with a clippy thing).

I'm reading Neal Stephenson's "The Big U" here and "Inner Reiki" and Wizard magazine at home.

You?

Well, I'm wearing some pretty simple stuff, a beige t-shirt with a bear on it, matching pants and socks, and sandals. My hair's hanging down, because it's too short for anything else.

I'm currently reading "Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner" by Scott Cunningham, and the latest issue of Time, which has a bunch of stuff on environmental issues.
Thursday, August 29th, 2002 05:27 am (UTC)
Wearing: pseudo-suede tan mini-dress, black bra/undies, sandal heels, choker, anklet, and earings in somewhat matching shades of turquoise.

Reading: Murder on the Prowl by Rita Mae Brown (again), apartment guides and LJ.

Hey, 'song, shoot me an email today, will ya?
Thursday, August 29th, 2002 05:29 am (UTC)
Right now I'm wearing a many-times worn pair of black jeans, sandles, and a white Megaview t-shirt. Hey, it's how poor college students get new t-shirts... go to a product show while on internship. ;) 'Course, I managed to not shower this morning, so when I leave work at noon, this will all change drastically.

I just got a copy of "Scaramouche", by Rafael Sabatini last night. Yay!

And Neal Stephenson rocks. ;)
Thursday, August 29th, 2002 05:36 am (UTC)
I love Scaramouche! It has one of the best opening lines ever.

Wearing: Black pants, that blue shirt you don't like, Mephistos on my feet, and my new South Park boxers (the ones with the whole gang, including Tweek!). And an invisible sign that only faculty can read that says "Kick me. Hard."

Reading: Two for the Dough, by Evanovich, still working on The Borderlands of Science at home.

And I've got a new userpic.

Well, I'm getting ready for Dragoncon. At the moment I'm wearing only an old pair of sweatpants as I finalize stuff.

I'm going to start reading CS Lewis' Out of the Silent Planet. In fact I'm bringing the book to the con, in case there's a lull.

Any interesting articles in Wizard this month? I haven't been to the comic shop yet.
Thursday, August 29th, 2002 05:42 am (UTC)
Wearing: Really cool blouse, but very hard to describe. It's got all blues and purples and some pinks in it and some black. A co-worker at my last job had it custom made for her, but then didn't like it. So since we were the same size, I 'inherited' it. Black cotton slacks, burgandy trouser socks and black sandals. Silver watch.
Reading: Lots of decorator magazines. Also just finished "The Nanny Diaries", which was hoots, but also kind of uncomfortable because the crap this poor nanny's boss put her through sounded *awfully* familiar to my boss. Currently also slogging through the Hunter's Guide for my Live Action Game. I just got "The Other Boleyn Sister" in the mail, which looks REALLY good, but I have probably close to a hundred books in my TBR (to be read) pile and they might get mad if I place the 'newbie' ahead of them. (What, your books don't talk to you?)
Thursday, August 29th, 2002 06:25 am (UTC)
I don't think I've ever answered these questions of yours...

I'm wearing my usual work outfit: khakis, blue short sleeve henley, long sleeved button-down shirt because it's unseasonably cool here (finally getting rain, yay!), blue socks, my Timberlands (which have been the best shoes I've ever owned), and boxer shorts (because I have a pimple on my thigh that kept getting rubbed by my usual boxer-briefs). TMI! :-P

Books:

'Song, you and I sure seem to have similar reading interests. I was so happy when "The Big U" was put back into print a couple of years ago. Previously, old copies of that first Neal Stephenson book were going for over $100 (for paperbacks!). You can tell it was his first effort, but I really enjoyed it. I've enjoyed every one of his books (though Snow Crash sure had its slow parts).

I'm finally reading Orson Scott Card's "Ender's Shadow" and loving it. I just finished Neil Gaiman's "Coraline" (creeepy) and before that Florence King's "Confessions of a Failed Southern Lady", which I *highly* recommend. It was so funny (but with some good serious parts too).
Thursday, August 29th, 2002 09:15 am (UTC)
See, Snow Crash is the book that I think has the best opening in the world (though for an example of perfect world building in the first page, check out Heart of Gold, which is good above and beyond it's examplary setup.)

Grey velour leggings and an old, faded, GSU Anthropology t-shirt. Plus a very well-worn pair of leather Mary Jane type shoes I bought at Abbadabba's years ago. My hair has been left in its natural state.

Currently reading "The Nature of the Gods" by Cicero and "The Chalice and the Blade" by Riane Eisler.

Thursday, August 29th, 2002 06:37 am (UTC)
I'm wearing what my co-workers call my "Wednesday" outfit. Black baby doll dress, black boots, hair in two braids hanging down my back. I decided that since they were going to call me Wednesday today, I'd go with it, so I'm wearing all my rings (shall I catalogue them for you? There are five of them...which is not actually *all* my rings, just my "normal" ones) and for the first time, I'm wearing: glow-in-the-dark dangly SKELETON earrings! Woohoo! (And, of course, my moonstone studs in the second piercing holes.) Underneath it, my new black lacy bra and black cotton panties, and my amber sun belly chain.

Reading: Called by the Spirits: Following your Shamanic Calling. Interesting. Reading the part about healing now, and soul retrieval. I'd always wondered how, exactly, shamanic traditions could believe in "soul retrieval", since I'd always thought that if one's soul left one's body, one would DIE... Apparently, at least in the Siberian tradition, they believe in three different souls that combine to make up "you": the ami, the suld, and the suns. The ami is rather flighty, and is the source of the theory of genetic memory, because it tends to reincarnate into family lines, and therefore has memories of lives of one's ancestors. It is one's upper-world soul. The suns is the lower-world soul, that which causes "normal" reincarnation memories, as it reincarnates randomly. The suld is the middle-world, physical soul (and is the one that, if it leaves the body, the body will die quickly), and generally does not reincarnate, but remains in the world as a nature or helping spirit. Or so the Siberian tradition holds. I find it an interesting theory that I haven't discussed with any of my "sources" yet. :)
Thursday, August 29th, 2002 06:40 am (UTC)
Wow, the three souls theory actually explains a bit for me. Thanks for posting that!

I was tempted to wear the Shayara shirt to work today, but decided I'd probably make a mess of it and didn't want to do that before the con. So I decided on black slip on shoes, my well-worn blue jeans, blue flowered panties, grey shirt with the hooks/eyes all the way down the front, mauve bra, headphones, glasses, these beaded bracelets I've become attached to, rings. Hair is the same, it doesn't do a whole lot at this length.

I'm not reading anything at the moment. I'm writing a sequel to "The Night Before" I have no idea why.
Thursday, August 29th, 2002 06:47 am (UTC)
I'm wearing sneakers, blue casual pants, a sort-of-plaid polo shirt, gray boxer-briefs.

I've just started Apocalypse Troll by David Weber, and just finished a novella by Lois McMaster Bujold called "The Mountains of Mourning".

I haven't read Big U yet, but I've read the rest of his stuff. Love it.
Thursday, August 29th, 2002 02:32 pm (UTC)
Ooooh. Bujold good. May I push The Curse of Chalion at you?

Wearing: a yellow short-sleeved shirt, khaki pants (a pair of my "skinny" pants, thank you, although they're really tight on me), herringbone-patterned briefs, black socks and black hiking boots (not at all businesslike, but no one complains).

Reading: Yesterday was New Comics Day, so today at work I have The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Volume 2, Issue 2; Hellblazer #175; and Girl Genius #7. At home I'm reading the second Cerebus phonebook and a very boring collection of erotica by Cecilia Tan.
Thursday, August 29th, 2002 07:21 am (UTC)
Cecelia Tan is just not as good as she's hyped up to be. Although she did come up with the best novella title ever, "Telepaths Don't Need Safewords"...

You didn't answer my cheer-me-up poll yesterday. *pout*

Wearing: Same old stuff. I do own clothes which aren't Brown boots, grey t-shirt and blue jeans but these are so much more comfortable than they are and I have enough grey t-shirts and jeans to go a lengthy period without needing to wear anything else (unless there's a meeting or something).

Reading: Comics mostly at the moment but what I need to be getting back into is my Dr Who novels collection, the unread ones are piling up and I'll never be able to get back into the discussions at the Jade Pagoda if I don't try and catch up a bit.
Thursday, August 29th, 2002 07:03 am (UTC)
Wearing: dark purple pants, light purple long-sleeve top, mary-janes, all in shades of wet.

Reading: same things still: book on Lizzie Borden (it looks like I'm finally getting to the evidence for the author's theory!) and The Celtic Seers' Sourcebook. I am determined to finish the latter by my birthday next month.
Thursday, August 29th, 2002 07:08 am (UTC)
i'm wearing a janes addiction t-shirt some very tattered cut off khakis sandals and exhaustion

i'm reading cosmisc trigger volume 1:final secret of the illuminati by robert anton wilson
Thursday, August 29th, 2002 07:10 am (UTC)
*grin*

You would ask that on a day when my outfit is particularly uninspired.

Army green pants with a stripe down the side. Black button up shirt. oxblood and black wingtips. Onyx ring. Red lipstick.

What am I reading? *grin* A Series of Unfortunate Events, the coolest young adult series by Lemony Snickett. Also rereading The Great Gatsby, just because I haven't read it for a while. I still hate it. I'm going to the Sci Fi City for comics tomorrow, so then I'll be reading the newest issues of my favorite comics.
Thursday, August 29th, 2002 07:16 am (UTC)
Wearing: Black slacks, green t-shirt, red hair tie, beloved old black rockports.

Reading: Master of Space and Time, by Rudy Rucker. It's the story of some delightfully irresponsible goobs who discover a way to hoodwink the universe (through some very fishy particle physics)into giving them Godlike powers. There are parasitic alien brains, fritter trees, and a cameo by a very thinly disguised William S. Burroughs. It's a hoot.

Next in line is "Roughing It", by the mysterious Mr. Clemmens....
Thursday, August 29th, 2002 07:25 am (UTC)
Jeans, Far Side t-shirt, workboots, all under my cleanroom suit.

The closest thing to "reading" that I'm doing lately is pawing through the core rulebook for the Star Wars RPG. Le sigh.

And I'm reading David Mack's Kabuki.

Wearing:
Black boots, black tights, black velvet long skirt (yay cooler weather!) black v-neck 3/4 sleeve cotton top, hair down and brushed, usual rings, pentacle, watch, black drop AriEarrings, black ribbon cameo choker.
Makeup: MAC studiofix NC15, Urban Decay Crash eyeliner, MAC Carnal lipstick with Quartz liner.

I feel great and feel like I look great!

Reading: After the King, short stories of fantasy for Tolkien's birthday, and The Western Way by Caitlin & John Matthews.

Thursday, August 29th, 2002 08:04 am (UTC)
Wearing, boring stuff: combat boots, jeans, black briefs, black belt, leatherman, black international male looking shirt, watch, wedding ring, round silver necklace, glasses. No politics today.

Reading: I finished yet another in the reality dysfunction series yesterday. I think there's just one left. There was nothing on the new to read shelf this morning so I grabbed "Mercenaries" of my gaming shelf. It looks like a great supplement, but it's huge. A whole nother players handbook on it's own, almost. I'll probably buy some new reading at Dragon*Con if they have any books in the dealers room. How can they have the biggest dealers room of any con I've ever seen, and the least books?

Thursday, August 29th, 2002 08:06 am (UTC)
I'm wearing Travelling Clothes! That would be my Cyberdyne polo, jeans, and Mocs.

And reading??? I'm reading the Collected Letters of Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings for my thesis....oh thrill *roll eyes*

Yaaaay! I love polls like these. I have no idea WHY, but they tickle me. Here goes:

I'm wearing,
BIG black HUGE flowy pants, they look like a skirt when I'm not walking. Comfy.

Purple panties. ^_^

A black strappy T-shirt under my Back brace.

The back brace of doom. It looks like a midevil breastplate.

Comfy black sweater with red stripes across my chest. Used to be too small....USED to be. ^_^

Me glassys.

My hair is huge and curly and wild. Just the way I like it.

Thats it. Thats me just shlumping around the house while I'm off on disability.

as for what I'm reading:

Sword-breaker- jennifer roberson

American Gods- Neil Gaiman

(PS Neal Stephenson rocks muchly)

Current issue of Shambhala sun

And

The teenagers liberation guide. How to quit school and get your own life and education.
I'm not a teen, but this book kicks arse.

Oh and LJ. Religeously.

Thursday, August 29th, 2002 02:41 pm (UTC)
Ditto on the LJ, in addition to the essay I'm supposed to be critiquing. Ahh, I love last-minute writing. In this case, I'm actually proficient enough to be kicking ass. I think LJ is good for my on-the-fly writing skills; I spend a greater percentage of my day critically reading and responding as a result of it.
Thursday, August 29th, 2002 09:03 am (UTC)
Wearing a sort of fuschia-colored dress shirt and boring black slacks, against my will, and the beaded raver bracelet [profile] jaguarundi gave me as a ward against the sinister powers of business casual.

Reading Perdido Street Station by China Mieville, also against my will, because if I don't, the rat will steal it, devour it, and quote it endlessly to me before I get the chance. :)
Thursday, August 29th, 2002 09:23 am (UTC)

What am I wearing? Um. Burgundy satin undergarments, and everything else is subject to change...I'm packing for DCON...so of course I have to try on everything.

What am I reading? Saki's The Complete Saki at home, The Onion Girl at work and on the bus...though I think I'll take it on the plane with me and finish it up.*bounce*
