Thanks for the poll answers yesterday - they helped. I have a feeling I'll be looking at them a lot today! *whimper*

I'm going to start reading CS Lewis' Out of the Silent Planet. In fact I'm bringing the book to the con, in case there's a lull.
Any interesting articles in Wizard this month? I haven't been to the comic shop yet.
Wearing/Reading
Reading: Lots of decorator magazines. Also just finished "The Nanny Diaries", which was hoots, but also kind of uncomfortable because the crap this poor nanny's boss put her through sounded *awfully* familiar to my boss. Currently also slogging through the Hunter's Guide for my Live Action Game. I just got "The Other Boleyn Sister" in the mail, which looks REALLY good, but I have probably close to a hundred books in my TBR (to be read) pile and they might get mad if I place the 'newbie' ahead of them. (What, your books don't talk to you?)

I'm wearing my usual work outfit: khakis, blue short sleeve henley, long sleeved button-down shirt because it's unseasonably cool here (finally getting rain, yay!), blue socks, my Timberlands (which have been the best shoes I've ever owned), and boxer shorts (because I have a pimple on my thigh that kept getting rubbed by my usual boxer-briefs). TMI! :-P
Books:
'Song, you and I sure seem to have similar reading interests. I was so happy when "The Big U" was put back into print a couple of years ago. Previously, old copies of that first Neal Stephenson book were going for over $100 (for paperbacks!). You can tell it was his first effort, but I really enjoyed it. I've enjoyed every one of his books (though Snow Crash sure had its slow parts).
I'm finally reading Orson Scott Card's "Ender's Shadow" and loving it. I just finished Neil Gaiman's "Coraline" (creeepy) and before that Florence King's "Confessions of a Failed Southern Lady", which I *highly* recommend. It was so funny (but with some good serious parts too).

Reading: Called by the Spirits: Following your Shamanic Calling. Interesting. Reading the part about healing now, and soul retrieval. I'd always wondered how, exactly, shamanic traditions could believe in "soul retrieval", since I'd always thought that if one's soul left one's body, one would DIE... Apparently, at least in the Siberian tradition, they believe in three different souls that combine to make up "you": the ami, the suld, and the suns. The ami is rather flighty, and is the source of the theory of genetic memory, because it tends to reincarnate into family lines, and therefore has memories of lives of one's ancestors. It is one's upper-world soul. The suns is the lower-world soul, that which causes "normal" reincarnation memories, as it reincarnates randomly. The suld is the middle-world, physical soul (and is the one that, if it leaves the body, the body will die quickly), and generally does not reincarnate, but remains in the world as a nature or helping spirit. Or so the Siberian tradition holds. I find it an interesting theory that I haven't discussed with any of my "sources" yet. :)

I haven't read Big U yet, but I've read the rest of his stuff. Love it.

Reading: Yesterday was New Comics Day, so today at work I have The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Volume 2, Issue 2; Hellblazer #175; and Girl Genius #7. At home I'm reading the second Cerebus phonebook and a very boring collection of erotica by Cecilia Tan.

Reading: Comics mostly at the moment but what I need to be getting back into is my Dr Who novels collection, the unread ones are piling up and I'll never be able to get back into the discussions at the Jade Pagoda if I don't try and catch up a bit.

Reading: same things still: book on Lizzie Borden (it looks like I'm finally getting to the evidence for the author's theory!) and The Celtic Seers' Sourcebook. I am determined to finish the latter by my birthday next month.

You would ask that on a day when my outfit is particularly uninspired.
Army green pants with a stripe down the side. Black button up shirt. oxblood and black wingtips. Onyx ring. Red lipstick.
What am I reading? *grin* A Series of Unfortunate Events, the coolest young adult series by Lemony Snickett. Also rereading The Great Gatsby, just because I haven't read it for a while. I still hate it. I'm going to the Sci Fi City for comics tomorrow, so then I'll be reading the newest issues of my favorite comics.

Reading: Master of Space and Time, by Rudy Rucker. It's the story of some delightfully irresponsible goobs who discover a way to hoodwink the universe (through some very fishy particle physics)into giving them Godlike powers. There are parasitic alien brains, fritter trees, and a cameo by a very thinly disguised William S. Burroughs. It's a hoot.
Next in line is "Roughing It", by the mysterious Mr. Clemmens....

The closest thing to "reading" that I'm doing lately is pawing through the core rulebook for the Star Wars RPG. Le sigh.

Reading: I finished yet another in the reality dysfunction series yesterday. I think there's just one left. There was nothing on the new to read shelf this morning so I grabbed "Mercenaries" of my gaming shelf. It looks like a great supplement, but it's huge. A whole nother players handbook on it's own, almost. I'll probably buy some new reading at Dragon*Con if they have any books in the dealers room. How can they have the biggest dealers room of any con I've ever seen, and the least books?
