Picked [livejournal.com profile] docorion up from the train station wearing a skirt.

Slipped my panties off at the car. :)

High-tailed it to the hotel, where Wacky Hijinks Ensued. :)

Picked kid up from school - had good, if overlong, impromptu parent/teacher conference.

Picked Adam up.

Two words: Melting Pot.

Elayna snacked on uncheesed green apples during the cheese course, ate all of the garnishy bits off a chef salad (I had the mushroom salad, as did my men), and fell. in. love. with the fondue process over the main course. Coq au vin. The chicken and steak were pronounced satisfactory; then she discovered shrimp. Oh, my lord, did she love the shrimp. She could not believe how very awesome the shrimp was. Couldn't stop talking about it.

I had a glass of wine with dinner. Which renders me about her age. So the men had to deal with us re-enacting scenes from Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends and Better Off Dead, the latter of which I'd shown Elayna for the first time yesterday. We're giggly.

And dessert was dark chocolate, which was sans milk. And Elayna went nuts. As did we all, really. :)

And! Even though we were a day late, our waitress, who was very nifty the whole time - you know how you can tell when waitresses really want kids, and are mentally bookmarking your kid for the list of What They Want? Yeah, that - gave us the Mother's Day gift from Melting Pot - a teddy bear with a coupon for a free dessert next time, and a donation to St. Jude's.

Child is now in bed, *way* late. Husband is checking his e-mail. Boyfriend is on the phone with his other girlfriend. And I'm going to go pack Miss Kid's bag for tomorrow, much as I can - tomorrow's the school play, and for some reason we are expected to pack the kids a change of clothes, toothbrush, toothpaste, etc. - sleeping bag optional. Erf? I guess this is for if your kid wants a nap? Because they're keeping the kids from the 2:30 dismissal through the end of the play, which starts at 6:30. I don't think they're keeping them overnight. This is all very odd. *shrug*

I have had wine, and it shows.

Good night!

There must be some teacher manual around suggesting the sleeping bag etc... A few weeks ago all of 1st graders at Sarah's school did a play called "Bedtime in Bow". They were all in sleep wear and had blankets and what not. A nice little school production it was.

Good taste in food.

I haven't been reading your LJ too long, so perhaps I missed the answer to my question if it was asked before I found your journal:

What does Elayna know, if anything, about your being poly? How do you explain to her about your boyfriend, if she doesn't know about poly, and sees you being close with him? If she does know about it, what does she think of it? Also, I think you mentioned at one point (or I could be mistake!) that she has her own LJ - is there any way she could come across your posts in her internet wandering?

Oops - that was more than one question - sorry. :-P

I don't have kids yet, so I always like to hear about ideas and situations that other parents have experienced. Although I don't follow a poly lifestyle, I'm sure that at some point I'll have to explain it and other things to my future kids, so it's good to know of others' experiences well in advance. :-P

We haven't discussed it.

I'm physically affectionate with all of my friends, so I'm just a little more physically affectionate with [livejournal.com profile] docorion... I don't remember if we've ever kissed in front of her, but we've certainly never made out in front of her...

Also, I think you mentioned at one point (or I could be mistake!) that she has her own LJ - is there any way she could come across your posts in her internet wandering?

She hasn't used it in literally years. *laugh* She does know my 'net name, though.... but by the time she's wandering around on the 'net unsupervised, we'll have had the poly talk. :)

At a summer conservatory I worked for we had the kids bring pillows and sleeping bags for an afternoon cast party. I brought mine and the bus driver driving that morning became convinced I was either a homeless prostitute or fleeing a bad marriage.

Sounds lovely! How were the shrimp prepared?
Tuesday, May 10th, 2005 05:15 am (UTC)
In coq au vin fondue. :)

There's a Melting Pot in Boston. We will bring you. :)

There's a Melting Pot in Boston.

Is there really? Hmm... I did not know that!

Said so on the menu! :)

There was a wonderful fondue place in Rockford (I only went there once, and before I moved in with J, when I was going out to visit regularly) and that was the first and as-yet only time I've done a full three-course fondue pot meal. It was also the first time I had ostrich. :)

There's a shabu-shabu place about a block from my work in Chinatown called Shabu-Zen which gives you a similar, Asian experience.

It's basically Japanese fondue-like cooking, done with boiling broth. Everyone "swish-swish"es their meat and veggies around, cooking them themselves. The only reason I ever knew what it was was because it was on Iron Chef all the time. *grin*

Tuesday, May 10th, 2005 08:01 am (UTC)
We all love Foster's!

And yeah. I twirled around in the skirt and said "See how much I love you?"
Tuesday, May 10th, 2005 08:03 am (UTC)

Yay Elayna! I'm so glad she got to go and that there was food she could eat and actually liked eating ;) Fondue is way fun!

I'm thinking of taking my wife to the Melting Pot, but she hates shrimp -- do they have all the foods on different plates, or are they touching each other? She won't eat anything that's touched shrimp.
Tuesday, May 10th, 2005 05:16 am (UTC)
It's all on one plate, but you can ask them to scootch the shrimp over. They're very accomodating.

Picked [livejournal.com profile] docorion up from the train station wearing a skirt.

Am I the only person who read this and got an immediate mental image of a guy standing around at the train station in a skirt, waiting to be picked up?

Not that I know what he looks like...

Man, he must really love you to wear a skirt for you! *wink*
Tuesday, May 10th, 2005 07:54 am (UTC)
Well, he does have a Utilikilt...
Tuesday, May 10th, 2005 08:00 am (UTC)
Well, yes, but a man would hardly have to be in love to wear one of those things. They're AWESOME.
Tuesday, May 10th, 2005 08:02 am (UTC)
Hell yeah. :)
Tuesday, May 10th, 2005 02:36 pm (UTC)
Yay! I'm glad that the Melting Pot was fun and yummy for all. :)
Wednesday, May 11th, 2005 07:16 am (UTC)
'Twas. :) I sat her down and asked her first if she was going to be okay with being cut out of a whole course, maybe more, and she assured me that she'd be fine, so I deemed it worth a try...
