So Elayna likes to play this game. You name an animal, and she has to name an animal whose name starts with the last letter in the previous animal's name, then you have to.... and so on. Like:

Elayna: Elephant.
You: Tiger.
Elayna: Raccoon.

Ad infinitum.

So she and [livejournal.com profile] gwynraven have been playing this for like 20 minutes and have totally run out of animals, and Elayna winds up with an "m". And she has no freakin' clue. They've used up most of the "m" animals. So [livejournal.com profile] yendi decides to give her a random clue: "Elayna, fill in the blank. 'A (blank) bit my sister once.'"

And Elayna instantly said, "Moose!"

My. Kid. Rocks. And she's never even *seen* that movie.

Would you believe the only animal I can find in the dictionary under "U" is "ugly duckling"??

Of course, I could probably find something if we went to Latin sceintific names, but I think you have officially stumped the animal game for English.

OK, I cheated.

grep ^u /usr/dict/words | less

revealed

Univalve (which is actually a class of shellfish, not a single species)

Unicorn (which is mythical and would probably DQ me)

and

Urchin (which has two meanings that are animals: it's short for sea urchin, which is that critter that looks like a gum-tree ball, all prickly; and the other (original) meaning, a hedgehog.)

But to play along from where yon auburn-haired diva left off....

Giraffe!

Actually, we agreed to use mythological animals... unicorn is valid and can be used. :)

Boy, I feel uncultured asking this, because I've heard this line quoted before... what movie is it from?
Sunday, September 1st, 2002 12:32 am (UTC)
hmm.. I think it was some British comedy troupe's movie about
some Arthurian sacred cup of some sort. Merlin! no... hmm...
The Sword in the Stone! no... damnit. Not Le Morte d'Arthur...
Excalibur? Still not quite right.

I know! Jabberwocky!

oh, damn, that's not it. I give up.
