As you saw from my earlier post, we left here around 8. Got to the B5 panel at 9 - an hour early - to get good seats. That panel's one of those that fills up verrrry quickly. So we're there, eating bagels, drinking coffee, as we are slowly surrounded by assholes. [livejournal.com profile] mousegrrl and I, on the ends, but have people sit down literally *on top of our thighs* without so much as an "excuse me". Bitches. And I get the single most annoying person at the panel directly in front of me. Joy. Fifteen minutes before the panel, to hypothetically keep us entertained, they put on the Felix the Cat movie. Now, I love Felix. Grew up on him. And Elayna's never seen it, so she's interested. But no. The bitch in front of me starts yelling, "Hey! No! We want Duck Dodgers! Duck Dodgers in the 23rd-and-1/2 Century!" and various permutations thereof, ad nauseum. Now, much as I love Duck Dodgers as well, I'm certain that they'd have played a scifi toon if they had one, so I replied loudly, "Okay, but some people are watching *this* movie*, so let's keep it down, okay?", omitting so many possible comments due to Elayna's presence (probably "Shut the fuck up, you loudmouthed, ignorant bitch" would've been good). Her reply was to turn away from me and declare loudly, over and over again, for the next 10 minutes, "Some people are such PARTY POOPERS." I just sat there, glared, and reminded myself that I have vowed to use my powers only for good.

One the B5 panel actually started, though, it was great. Not as many people came as were scheduled, but that's okay, as one of the cancellations was Tracy Scoggins, the nitwit, and we still got Peter Jurasik, Andreas Katsulas, Julie Caitlin Brown, and Andrea Thompson. They've got great chemistry, and it was just fun to watch them verbally spar.

As that panel ended, [livejournal.com profile] tikimama and [livejournal.com profile] melintur found us, yay! We apparently missed a hell of a drunken party the previous night. Poo. :( Next year we're flying my sister up to babysit! We made arrangements to meet later, and went outside to wait for [livejournal.com profile] darkmattr.

And wait.

And wait.

An hour an a half later, still [livejournal.com profile] darkmattr-less but now with [livejournal.com profile] adellyna, [livejournal.com profile] edie22, [livejournal.com profile] gwynraven, [livejournal.com profile] tikimama, [livejournal.com profile] melintur, and [livejournal.com profile] auryn29a, we decided to go to lunch, and that [livejournal.com profile] darkmattr would find us. He did, and so did [livejournal.com profile] two_star and [livejournal.com profile] catalyxt.

Lunch was wacky fun, and [livejournal.com profile] auryn29a and I went from there to the Breaking into Comics panel. The previous panel, Humor in Comics, was still going on. We looked at the sign - "Peter David, Bob Burden, and Judd Winick". Umm, hell yeah - we went in and were vastly entertained. Judd had been sketching the whole time, and said that the sketches would be available at the table, first come first serve, after the panel; so immediately as they said thanks, I eeled my way up and grabbed the one Frumpy the Clown sketch, yay!

The Breaking into Comics panel was actually quite informative, though not as much so as the writing panel. Cully Hammer and Brian Stelfreeze were great though, and they review work and tell you if it's shit, so I got their mailing address. [livejournal.com profile] mousegrrl joined us for this, straight from Robot Wars, and we spent most of the time nodding at each other. :) We both came away from it with the feeling that self-publishing is the best way for us to get noticed.

The Firefly panel - ehh. They showed the TV promos and extrapolated stuff from there and from what they've read online. There was no actual information imparted, just pure speculation. But [livejournal.com profile] gwynraven won a packet of astronaut ice cream with a "Firefly" sticker on it.

And DragonCon ended. :( [livejournal.com profile] edie22, [livejournal.com profile] adellyna, [livejournal.com profile] darkmattr, [livejournal.com profile] tikimama, [livejournal.com profile] melintur, [livejournal.com profile] mousegrrl, and [livejournal.com profile] gwynraven came back to our house; Gwyn left, and we all went to dinner, joined by [livejournal.com profile] eternalredneck later on.

I kicked everyone out around 10 and went to sleep... but I didn't sleep much. I'm feeling terribly sick. More later; very nauseous...

Hm! *That's* a good thought... :)

You know, shutting her up would have been good for everyone else. :) Sometimes you have to use your powers for the *greater* good.

I'm glad the Firefly panel turned out to be a dud; I got back into town from my nephew's birthday party just after 4 and almost returned to the con for that panel, but at the last moment decided it wasn't worth another fiver for parking. So, I'm glad I didn't miss anything.

Felix the Cat was the very first image ever broadcast on television, way back in 1929.

Yeah, Firefly would definitely not have been worth the hassle. It premieres, I think, September 20 - we're going to have viewing parties for that and for the Buffy premiere.

Right, September 20, which is a Friday night. Fox thinks it will succeed in the same timeslot where Dark Angel failed, even though Firefly is going for the same demographic.

This is the same Fox that canceled Futurama despite the fact that it always won its timeslot. Sigh.

Actually, they're giving Futurama a *little* leeway - hey're going to run the episodes that were preempted by sports and see how they do. Which isn't great, but is better than nothing...

But anyway. Unlike Dark Angel, Firefly has a plot, a good writer, actual humor, actors who can actually act, etc.... and a hot chick, too.

Dark Angel had a hot chick!

But Firefly has two. Hmm. Maybe it'll get twice the ratings?

Right, I know - that's the one thing the two shows have in common.

I haven't seen many pics of the "girl in a box" - can't evaluate her hotness yet. But the "cosmic hooker" is really hot.

According to Widget from needcoffee.com and an X-files panel on what to expect out of Hollywood, there's a reason they put Firefly in the Friday death to all shows zone. Apparently Josh's first pilot sucked. Bigtime. They have enough faith in him that instead of telling him to screw off they gave him money to make another pilot, which he did and which will air on Sept 20th. The original pilot will be aired sometime in the season.

I still think from the commercials that it will rock, but then again I like everything. If it's good it may take a freaking internet grass-roots movement to keep it on the air.
