And in unadulterated good news.... due to boredom at DragonCon this weekend, Elayna read 98 pages of Louis Sachar's "Sideways Stories from Wayside School". She rocks. :)

I loved it too... she's actually reading my old copy. :) It has my name and my sister's name scrawled on the inside front cover...

That's such a great book.

Has she read the A Series of Unfortunate Events series? It's a heck of a good time. I think you and [livejournal.com profile] yendi would enjoy them too.

She hasn't read them... we have the first book, and I'm just waiting for her to get interested in it! I buy her so many books that some get lost in the shuffle... I neeed to let her read what she's got before I get her anything new...

I LOVE the series. There are eight of them, and I've only got four so far. *pout*

Of course, I buy childrens books all the time. I don't have the excuse that they are for MY child. *grin* I say keep buying her books even though she hasn't read all that she has. That way YOU can enjoy them first. *giggle*

The first thing I bought when I found out I was pregnant was the box set of the Chronicles of Narnia. :) I love buying her things I've loved...and we do share books. We read each other Bunnicula (alternating chapters). :)

Oh! I loved Bunnicula. Though my fave of that series was The Celery Stalks At Midnight. It still makes me giggle madly. *grin* Though that doesn't take much.

She hasn't gotten to that one yet... I loved it too, though. And Howliday Inn.

but are they in the right order? ;)

my 10 year old nephew is reading Lord of the Rings now, and apparently took my CoN boxed set with him as well this past weekend.

Damn straight they are - I don't care what they say, Magician's Nephew is book #6!

Elayna's 7, for reference, and she's currently on Prince Caspian...

That was a neat book. When she gets a little older, I recommend The War Between the Pitiful Teachers and the Splendid Kids, too.

I *love* that book. I re-found it when I went through my old books to give Elayna the ones I thought she'd like - it was the only one I sat down and re-read. Skinny Malinky's my hero...

I saw you in [livejournal.com profile] astrophysicat's journal, though I know I've seen you on LJ before. Went to check out your interests and was amazed at how much we had in common, as well as how many of your interests were interests I had never bothered to list. So I added them. And you. Hope that's okay. Sorry I didn't get a chance to run into you at the Con...

Yay - well met! :) And there are still plenty of chances to run into me around town. :)

The wombat is my daughter's favorite animal, by the way...

Tuesday, September 3rd, 2002 08:52 pm (UTC)
Great! Yet more proof that chicks dig wombats!

She rocks.

Well, IMNASHO, so does her mom, for teaching her the joy of reading, and how to occupy herself when the grownups are busy. Show me a good kid, and I'll show you one hardworking mom. (Or dad! Or both! :)

She's got a hardworking mom, a hardworking [livejournal.com profile] yendi, and lots of great grownup role models. :)
