To answer a recent FAQ

No, I will not be going to Dragon*Con.

Because

(a) it's insanely crowded, to the point where just trying to navigate from panel to panel gets me jittery, and
(b) it's too expensive for what it is.

I do have a little twinge about not going, because

(a) a lot of people I want to see are going to be there. I mean *you guys*, dark_blade and kradical and wicked_wish and maybe velvetsteel and, well, dozens more of you. And because
(b) it's a con in the city I live in.

But I know that going will drive me crazy and wear me the hell out. So.

Anyway.

If people are planning outside-the-Con get-togethers, let me know. I would like to see/meet people. But. I am not attending the Con.

It's too late for me to arrange travel to Atlanta for the con. Plus, I'm broke. Plus, I'm low on vacation days. Plus, I'd have had nowhere to stay that didn't involve camping out on someone's couch.

Now, Arisia? Arisia I'm going to hit this winter. I was a fool to miss it this past January.

I'm planning on running games at Arisia. Many games. To make up for my absence at GenCon.

And then there's VeriCon (does VeriCon still happen?) later that month? Gaming... oh yeah, giggity giggity.

I know nothing of VeriCon.

It started at Harvard the year I moved away (2001?) and is primarily a gaming con with a webcomic presence, from what I remember. It was the con where I had Margaret Weis stop by my Dragonlance game and play Tasslehoff for a few minutes. [/geek mode off]

Missing GenCon hit me hard this year. But it would've been better than going almost exactly a year after The Breakup. Too many geeky memories.

But yes, I will definitely run many games at Arisia if there is interest and I can get into the schedule.

you're not the only one with that opinion of DC. I went to several, but had less and less fun at each, and now I just save my money for better cons, like Fantasm (Unfortunately now defunct), and hopefully Frolicon (The ersatz replacement for Fantasm, from some of the same poeple). I'd also like to go to Eroticon some day :)
