Morpheus: "It is sometimes a mistake to climb. It is always a mistake never even to make the attempt... If you do not climb you will not fall. This is true. But is it that bad to fall, that hard to fall? Sometimes you wake, and sometimes, yes, you die. But there is a third alternative."
Todd, upon waking: "Sometimes you wake up. Sometimes the fall kills you. And sometimes, when you fall...you fly."
--Neil Gaiman, Sandman

I've written on that theme several times both before and after having read that quote. I actually experienced it as well - when I was fairly young, I had endless falling nightmares, and the way I finally came to deal with them was to go with the feeling, in essence, to fly.
My mom gave me a framed postcard of a guy flying, partially to counter my wife always saying that I have my head in the clouds - because I see that as good thing. =)

My favorite Gaiman quote was: "Ah but it IS true. Things need not have happened to be true. Tales and dreams are the shadow-truths that will endure when mere facts are dust and ashes." -Sandman #17 "A midsummer night's dream"
I also love the quote at the beginning of Gaiman's Coraline, which was actually by GK Chesterton:
"Fairy tells are more than true: not because they tell us that dragons exist, but because they tell us that dragons can be beaten."
