Happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] khaosworks and [livejournal.com profile] runnerwolf!

Hello to new readers[livejournal.com profile] clockwrk and [livejournal.com profile] mrf_arch!

Medical
The usual, but the exhaustion is still much worse than usual. Doing the AIDS Walk - not the best idea. Doing the AIDS Walk at that pace - a terrible idea. [livejournal.com profile] docorion will pace me next year, make sure I don't overdo.

Because it's not a matter of whether I can do something. If I'm determined enough, I can do anything for a short while. It's a matter of how much I'll pay for it later.

But I raised almost $700!

EDIT: Wordfuckery goin' on. Oy. ALSO EDIT: Coordination fuckery. Not so much with the walking. *sigh*

*squirm*
[livejournal.com profile] asim is mean.

Books! Also? My daughter rocks.
Adam and I have finished The Penultimate Peril, and are now waiting for the rest of you to do so so we can discuss it. *pokes [livejournal.com profile] gwynraven*

Elayna started it late. Why? Because we saw MirrorMask on the shelf. She picked it up and started reading it as I continued to browse SF/Fantasy...

Yes. She's been waiting for Penultimate Peril all year, but she set it down for Gaiman.

Well, we had to buy it. (And Woken Furies by Richard Morgan and A Place So Foreign and Eight More by Cory Doctorow for me because, as she has been a good girl, I have been a good mama.) And she chose to read it in the car. And during her snack. Instead of the book she's been clamoring all year for.

When I asked her why, she said, "Well, it's funny..." and she paused and considered. "And I like the way he uses language."

Oh.

*beam*

I could not in a million years have designed a better child than this. A more perfect child for me. True, she could be better about homework and keeping her room clean, but show me a kid who couldn't. My daughter appreciates the way authors use language.

It is so good to be me sometimes.

That is so cool! :)

I wish more moms would encourage their kids to read like you do.

I think everyone should. I think reading is incredibly important. I mean, I'm not The Perfect Mom, but that's something I will say... I think it's vitally important that parents get their kids interested in reading at an early age.

I'm not The Perfect Mom

Yeah, you could be a little better about housework and keeping your room clean. ;)

Love that icon.

Just saying hi. I was curious about what you had to say.

You'll be waiting awhile for me, I'm afraid. I'm way behind on the Lemony Snicket books. I've only read the first six. I'll have to get cracking.

when is a good time to start with the whole kids reading thing? my daughter is 3 and i started reading to her before she started talking. then my son came along [he's 2] and things got all screwy... suddenly there wasn't really time for reading to megan anymore. and now that they're older, they want to do different things, or megan wants to "read" by herself, michael's definition for "reading" involves ripping up the pages, etc... i end up with a house full of scraps of torn books or with tantrums or playing referee between them. i dunno. maybe i'm just expecting too much too soon?

Okay, that's just bloody cool. And I love that she has the vocabulary to put together "I like the way he uses language". :)

OK, I gotta ask a question.

Connection with Asim?

I mean you are not Scadian, right.

That's how I know him.
Thursday, October 20th, 2005 01:38 am (UTC)
*waves hands helplessly* He's my friend, is my connection...

Asim's a real-life in-person friend (though nonlocal, and I don't see him near enough). I can't remember if I "met" him on LJ before I met him in person - if so, the former didn't precede the latter by much.

No, I'm not Scadian. :)

Yet!

Heheheheh. Plots.

We have great opportunities for kids up here.

Just teasing, more or less.
