It is Secretaries' Week. Tomorrow is Secretaries' Day. Do something cool for your secretary. Because you know they're the ones who really run the office anyway, and they remember who treats them right. :)
"Administrative Assistant" is for people who want to be called something other than what they are. It's like housewives calling themselves "Domestic Engineers".
I'm a secretary. I take this as a point of pride. :)
2 years ago (I think), at my old job, they (as usual) forgot Secretaries' Day. So one of the other secretaries put a clipping on the CEO's desk about it. Well, he decided, since the hordes of people who want a fancier title declared that it was now "Administrative Professionals' Day", that everyone in the office was an "administrative professional", so the executives bought some pizzas for the whole office.
Free pizza is nice, but seriously, that undermines the whole purpose of the day - which is to honor the people who actually do the work in your office, and seldom get recognition for it.

Who actually do the work in the office? LOL. No offense here, but I bust my ass at work and I am not a secretary. I am an architect who busts his ass every day with a completely incompetent secretary who takes way to many prescription drugs and doesn't remember today from yesterday. It would be more efficient to do it myself than correct her mistakes. Of course, not everyone is the same, please do not stereotype everybody in categories :P Last time I looked, I don't remember there being a professionals day on my calendar. Hallmark? You are missing another flagrant capitalist oppotunity.....
Look on your calendar again - it's there. Has been for about 10 years. Check hallmark.com too, if you like...
And I'm sorry your secretary's incompetent, but really, who's generalizing now? If she doesn't do her job, fire her ass and hire someone competent! We had a problem like this with the receptionist at my old job... with her it was prescription drugs *and* drinking on the job, though. They finally fired her and are much happier...

They are like compassionate conservatives to me - I've heard they exist, but I've never seen one.

Shouldn't it be "Assistants Day"? :)
