I'm going to be offline for a bit creating a bunch of LaTeX files (for you non-math/cs folks, that isn't as fun as it sounds!). Don't you just love getting new job responsibilities! *shakes head*

I'll leave you with the lyrics to two Julia songs (new people - Julia's the main character in [livejournal.com profile] shayara). Because, like me, she desperately wants to lay down her sword sometimes... but she always picks it back up.

"The Gauntlet" by Dropkick Murphys, and "Black Friday Rule" by Flogging Molly.

"The Gauntlet" - Dropkick Murphys

Well I just got back from a break in the fight
I was weighing in heavy
but still feeling alright
all I hear in the distance mines and shells
here come the sirens wailing
another attack to be repelled

do you think we're gonna make it?
I don't know unless we try
you could sit here scared to move
or we could take them by surprise
it's submission that they want it's surrender that they need
when we're doing it their way their aims will be achieved

They're gonna come when you're not ready
when you're not to well-prepared
they're gonna prey upon your weakness
no man's soul is ever spared
you've got to stand up, yeah, and fight them
show them what it's all about
this man is not for sale
there will be no backing down

Chorus:
Stand up and fight
and I'll stand up with you!
We shall succeed

They won't get me they won't get me
though they never cease to try
they won't get me they won't get me
I would rather fight and die
they won't get me they won't get me
well my friend will they get you?
when they get you when they get you
tell me what are you gonna do?

Chorus

"Black Friday Rule" - Flogging Molly

I want to believe in myself once again
So I dream of a man whose hopes never end
To kiss with a girl who's as lovely as you
I'd give you my heart, if you gave me the truth

And for every tear that is lost from an eye
I'd dig me a well where no man could destroy
I want to believe in a freedom that's bold
But all I remember is the freedom of old

Well I lost me a wife, so I found me a plane
Flew all the way to California
This mess in my head is a mess getting out
Ya drink too much coffee, I drink too much stout

But after a while, when my mouth's not so dry
I'll dance up a storm, sure life's looking fine
But as darkness falls, I return to my bed
Don't ask me more questions, don't fuck with my head

I've been down in this world, down and almost broken
Like thousands of people, left standing in their shoe
I've been down in this world, down and almost broken
As thousands they grieve, as the Black Friday rule

The buildings they shake but my heart it beats still
Oh mother of Jesus, I feel pretty ill
I want to go home where my feet both feel safe
But there ain't no jobs in the old free state

So I must remain in my new adopted land
I'm doing the best, Hell I'm doin' all I can
So next time you see me, don't ask for my name
For I am the King and sure long may I reign

I've been down in this world, down and almost broken
Like thousands of people, left standing in their shoe
I've been down in this world, down and almost broken
As thousands they grieve, as the Black Friday rule

I've been down in this world, down and almost broken
Like thousands of people, left standing in their shoe
I've been down in this world, down and almost broken
As thousands they grieve, as the Black Friday rule
As thousands they grieve, as the Black Friday rule

It's pronounced Lay-Tek (or La-Tec), so it's a bit clearer what it's for...

Thank you.

I have the word "warrior" tattooed across my back in Arabic, surmounted by the Japanese kanji for "love." That poem is the easiest explanation I've ever found as to why, when people ask.
