Happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] opakele!

Happy early birthday to [livejournal.com profile] beelavender, [livejournal.com profile] glenn5, [livejournal.com profile] mister_wolf, and [livejournal.com profile] slipjig, all of whom advance a year over the weekend!

Hello to new reader [livejournal.com profile] goddess_of_art!

Medical
Exhaustion + nausea. I've been infernally hard to wake lately... still spoonless from my back-to-back trips. And making another in less than a week - go me! Oy.

Cardiologist today at 11:15. Nothing major to report; those drugs are mostly working. I'm only getting the palpitations about once every week or two weeks now, and I can live with that.

Flattery will - oh, wait, it *will* get you everywhere.
Two cute guys have called me witty/quick-witted in the last 48 hours. Huh. I think I'm catching Adam's reflected glow. Adam is the funny one!

Shayara Stuff
The Blogathon chapbook is assembled, save for the introduction. It has the Blogathon stories for 2003 (Fenris and Jessa during the Purges) and 2004 (a day in the life of the four sisters: Tessa, Alanna, Katrianna, and Julia), and I threw in "Fallen" and Shawn's story for the heck of it. There's introductory art for each story (except "Fallen") and for each sister. My graphics person is doing funky-fresh graphic design things with it. It is shiny. And all profits will go to RAINN.

While waiting at the pharmacy yesterday, I drew up a rough plan for the primer; basically; I'm going to alternate "fiction" and "nonfiction". A storybit, then a historical note about their diaspora. A storybit, then something about government. Sound good? Some of the stuff will be stuff I've already posted here, of course, because I post a lot of stuff here - but in this, you'll have it in a handy-dandy reference book and stuff.

Turn the Radio Up
Elayna's new favorite song? "Make Me Lose Control", by Eric Carmen. She sings along. My kid is an odd duck.

Friday Memeage!
Wearing
Teal twinset, jeans, red panties with "kinky" in candy hearts, skinny cow socks.

Reading
Bringing Down the House by Ben Mezrich (this is the one about the MIT blackjack team), and a bunch of magazines that arrived while I was away.

Elayna is Reading
Having thoroughly enjoyed The Westing Game, Elayna is now reading The Mysterious Disappearance of Leon (I mean Noel), also by Ellen Raskin.

Writing
Well, duh.

Planning
To bust my ass on that primer. And find a title for it. Being as it's a RAINN benefit, I'm calling the Blogathon chapbook "Stories from Silence". I'll figure the primer's title out.

You?

'Elayna's new favorite song? "Make Me Lose Control, Y'Guys, Seriously", by Eric Cartman'

Wow.

"Come sail away
Come sail away
Come saaaail away with me, you guys..."
Friday, January 6th, 2006 01:39 pm (UTC)
Wow, thanks for the welcome!
Friday, January 6th, 2006 02:05 pm (UTC)
You're welcome! How'd you find me?
Friday, January 6th, 2006 03:34 pm (UTC)
My friend [livejournal.com profile] crystalsage raves about you!
Friday, January 6th, 2006 03:38 pm (UTC)
Ah! *waves to Sagey*

For those reading who don't know, the Mezrich book was most definitely not the inspiration for any film travesties starring Queen Latifah, Steve Martin, and Eugene Levy.

One of my personal jokes from when "Make Me Lose Control" was big on the radio would be to sing "Turn the radio off, for that sw--"

And I once hoped that the Reel Big Fish song where the singer repeatedly sings "I don't fucking care, said I don't fucking care, said I don't fucking care anymore" had been sung to the tune of "come sail away, come sail away, come sail away with me..." 'Cause, y'know, it already almost is.
Friday, January 6th, 2006 02:27 pm (UTC)
Thank yew! *preens*

*smooch*

Maybe you've said this already, but I don't think so...are the chapbooks going to be an Arisia exclusive or will those of us not lucky enough to get to Arisia be able to buy them too?
Friday, January 6th, 2006 02:41 pm (UTC)
You'll be able to buy them too - but after Arisia, as I only have a few days til I fly out, and that's not enough time to organize a sale!
Friday, January 6th, 2006 02:43 pm (UTC)
Hey, I don't mind waiting. :) It's always well worth the wait and I certainly can't turn down a chance to help out RAINN.

Try not to wear yourself out *too* much gearing up for Arisia though. :) *hugs*

OMG OMG OMG. *falls over*
Friday, January 6th, 2006 02:47 pm (UTC)
*strategically places many large pillows before you get to the ground*

Watch out with that falling thing: you don't got much padding, y'know.
Friday, January 6th, 2006 02:47 pm (UTC)
Yeah, I know that's kind of a tall order. *grin*
Friday, January 6th, 2006 02:45 pm (UTC)
Wearing: Blue skirt, white button-down shirt, smoky grey button-down jacket, butterfly earrings.
Reading: Bits and pieces while waiting for a few more books I ordered to come in - I have bookmarks in Fountainhead, The Blue Sword, and Spirit in the Wires, which I should read for the 1st time all-the-way-through soon.
Planning: Want to roast a chicken and make really good chicken soup from the carcass (and dark meat) this weekend. Need to tidy house. Need to work on a few personal issues/deadlines. Need to stop feeling like I'm coasting through life.
Friday, January 6th, 2006 02:48 pm (UTC)
Yay for you and books and RAINN. I can get something I'll enjoy reading and the money will go to a cause I believe in. The primer and the chapbook are too separate things?

And I didn't even know Ellen Raskin had more books out. I'll have to go look into this.
Friday, January 6th, 2006 02:52 pm (UTC)
Separate things, yep.
Friday, January 6th, 2006 02:55 pm (UTC)
You?

Preparing for a dr's appt where he will look at me and throw up his hands. Laughing at all the stupid ppl I am forced to come into contact with everyday...and I'm pretty much housebound!
Friday, January 6th, 2006 03:49 pm (UTC)
Elayna has great taste in books. Please don't go into negative spoons; I think the world would implode. Man I want that chapbook. Too bad I had/have no money. I need to find myself a comic shop (top of the list of things I never thought I'd say, btw.)
Friday, January 6th, 2006 04:56 pm (UTC)
The Westing Game is one of my favorite books of all time...
Friday, January 6th, 2006 06:26 pm (UTC)
Wearing: blue corduroys, lighter blue t-shirt, bare feet.
Reading: 'Norwegian Wood' (Haruki Murakami). I should probably finish that today: no idea what's next on the stack.
Planning: to spend the last day of my vacation inside intensely hating the fact that I was not born with an X and a Y chromosome. Enjoying the return of my spouse this evening.

Thank you for the birthday mention. Don't ask how old.

Take care of yourself.
