Exhaustion + nausea. The usual.

Writing
I'm wondering if poor Victor has any fans. No comments on his bit yet (yes, I am comment-whoring; I wrote it at 1 AM and want to know if it's coherent), and he gets fewer comments on average.

I don't know why my kick-start has me on the tertiary characters. I know Telenias has fangirls, though. :)

That battle is going to need to be a graphic novel, else it'll be a big huge prose novel... simply because every character has a story in it. Much easier to do in comics form. Much briefer. In comics form, you'll see Capri's token tied into Victor's hair and, knowing the significance of House colors by then (as this is the end of Act Two), will know it for what it is without me 'splaining.

If X'Ana gets situated and drawing and stuff, this is how you'll see Shayara - three large graphic novels and two smaller ones. Act One of the main story - a separate volume for the Purges - Act Two - the battle - Act Three - wrap-up, one-shots, bonus features.

As a casual but long-time reader, I don't have a firm grasp on Victor yet. In fact, I keep mixing him up in my head with Jeramie, although I know full well that they are different (I think Victor is ingrained in my head as an Evil name). While I'm quite familiar with some of your male characters, Victor still feels a bit unformed in my head.

Duly noted! I have only started delving into him recently.

Victor !=evil; he's Kirayth. Tried to join up when he was all of twelve. Was turned down because, dude - twelve. The minimum age is sixteen, which is the age of majority for Dasaroi, but Victor ended up officially joining a year early, because of the Purges - he rode out with the Kirayth that night, permission from Fenris or no. Did quite a bit of damage. Showboated a bit, too, which continues to annoy Halloran. The next week, he was officially inducted.

He's an only child who... it's not that he doesn't get along with his parents, they just don't really grok each other. His family has = the Kirayth for a long time. He was everyone's little brother, sort of, before he came of age. Some still view him like that. And he acts like it... light-spirited, goofy at times. Except when dealing with Kirayth business. Then he's deadly serious.

He's a bit slutty, but not in an irresponsible way, and he has a particular interest in Capri (he was her second lover) and Kieran, his Kithrayn. They're not In Love, but they're dear friends and frequent playmates.

He's almost medieval about honor. Particularly as regards the Houses and the Talthar Kithrayna. More so than anyone else here save the Telenias. I need to explore that. This may be due in part to the fact that most of my primary characters are Talthar Kithrayna and take the system for granted; they don't have to work, they have people at their command, et cetera. Capri's not a Kithraya, but she's the lover of three, eventually - she has the advantages. Fenris is practically the head of his own House by now, if unofficially. Victor's the guy on the ground, the one who works in the garage, the one who has codes to operate by when dealing with Kithrayna. He's especially rigid in this due to an event that happened a few centuries ago with a predecessor of Jeramie...

Physically? Hair so deep brown to be almost black, very thick, very wavy (Capri's hands get caught in it), down to his shoulders. Deep brown eyes with tiny flecks of gold. A ready smile. :) Hands large, deft, and callused, as you'd expect from the work he does. Not over-muscled, but strong - closer to Halloran than Kieran, bodywise, though not as tall (Halloran's 6'4" - I'm not sure how tall Victor is. I can see him in my head, but I can't gauge height). Rarely seen without his leather jacket - an official Kirayth uniform, symbols painted on the sleeves. He wanted that jacket all his life. He's earned it. He's wearing it. Jeans. Black Frye boots, usually.

That help?

Yeah :) But maybe you should post some more Capri/Victor fun stuff, to help him gel! :)

I don't know why I think "evil" every time I see the name Victor. I can't even think of some fiction that might make me feel that way. The only other "Victor" I can think of off the top of my hands is from some soap or another - The Young and the Restless or so - that my mother was kind of fond-ish of. And that Victor was more tall, dark, and handsome than evil, so I totally can't explain my reaction.

Are you requesting pornography, young lady? :)

Who, me?? *blinks innocently*

Though actually, I was thinking more of them having fun together. What they choose to do to make each other smile shows a lot about their characters.

Gotcha. See where my head's at?

Heh, well, it's not like I wrote it without being unaware that it could be broadly interpreted. *whistles innocently*

OK, is it only my browser? Because I'm reading what you wrote as:

"Victor != evil"

I'm confused. Are you saying Victor isn't evil, or Victor is really really evil?
Thursday, January 26th, 2006 03:59 pm (UTC)
"!=" is geek-shorthand for "does not equal". Sorry...
Thursday, January 26th, 2006 05:47 pm (UTC)
Ah. Cool! Will remember.

And, in case you ever wanted to know...*kicks ground shyly* "≠" is html for "does not equal."

'cause I'm a math geek.

Errr.... yeah, I was too competent for my own good, just there. You'd type it as ampersand - number symbol - 8800 - semicolon .

Heh.

I'm in the same boat - I don't have a sense of where Victor is woven in to the Shayara tapestry, so to speak. I don't even know if I knew Capri had another relationship of that intensity, so that snippet caught me way off-guard.

Of course, I'm also one of your monogamous readers and once I become a 'shipper of a couple (like I am of Capri & Halloran), it takes some adjusting to be able to accept another - more than boyfriend but less than soulbonded; I can't come up with a word that seems to fit. And no, Capri being with Julia doesn't bother me because I'm monogamous with double-standards. So there.

Even with your description of Victor, I am not getting as clear a sense of how he fits with everyone else. That just means there's more left to be revealed, which is, as you say, of The Good.

It's not very intense; in descending order, she has Halloran, Kieran and Julia, Victor, then her other lovers. He's not equal to Kier. But she and Kier share him, and that makes him more special than the others...

I wonder if you'll ever get to a point where you won't register the side effects anymore. Like they'll still be there but you'll be so used to them that it won't matter. Like my headaches most of the time.

Thanks! My fascinating natal day shall consist of, uh, going in to school to fight with Adobe After Effects. ;)
