At lunch: "Pure" by Rebbecca Roy
At dinner: the Liaden omnibus, still; I put it down, then came back to it.
In the bathroom: "The Warslayer by Rosemary Edghill. Which is just ehh.
In bed: "The Ethical Slut".

You?

How is The Ethical Slut so far? I keep reading posts that mention it...
Monday, September 16th, 2002 08:01 am (UTC)
Just started it last night, but I like it so far - and it got high recommendations from people I trust. I'll keep you posted!
Monday, September 16th, 2002 08:40 am (UTC)
I'll be looking forward to hearing about it. :)

And on my current reading list:

The Sea Priestess- Dion Fortune
Leadership Secrets of Attila the Hun- Wess Roberts
Contemplating Adultery (the secret life of a Victorian woman)- Lotte Hamburger(?)

Just finished Acorna by Anne McCaffrey and Margaret Ball
Just started reading Protector of the Small: Page by Tamora Pierce
*trying* to reread The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R. Tolkien
I think I'm in the middle of a couple of other books too *laugh*

At my desk: SWRPG Revised Core Rulebook (d20)

Upstairs: "Different Loving", by Gloria G Brame, William D Brame, and Jon Jacobs

Two thumbs up on "The Ethical Slut". :)
Monday, September 16th, 2002 08:49 am (UTC)
I am reading book two in the "Left Behind" series about the Rapture. :)

I SHOULD be reading: Why Religion Matters, by Huston Smith (Author of the bestselling "The World's Religions", and a personal favorite religion author), for a discussion group at my church I am considering joining this wed evening. I sure HOPE we were not supposed to be DONE with the book by the first night. :)
Monday, September 16th, 2002 09:12 am (UTC)
I'm reading:
An Oblique Approach by Eric Flint and David Drake on my Palm at work.
Bleak Seasons by Glen Cook at home
Various other odds and ends as time permits.
Monday, September 16th, 2002 09:46 am (UTC)
Bee Season by Myla Goldberg is currently on the bedside table; home improvement & queer magazines in the bath. I just finished The Family Tree by Sheri Tepper. Next up: I will have CJ pick a number between 1 & 80. That's how many books are on the to-be-read bookcase, and sometimes I just can't choose.
Monday, September 16th, 2002 10:03 am (UTC)
Wasn't The Family Tree great? I have the worst time with Tepper, I either adore her books or despise 'em. There's no in between and I never know which one it's going to be until I'm well into the book. :)
Monday, September 16th, 2002 10:06 am (UTC)
Currently reading American Gods (I just now finally picked it up) by Neil Gaiman and Cordelia's Honor by Lois McMaster Bujold. Two books is like a record low for me. I need to find a good non-fiction book to start up. I haven't found my to-be-read box of books in all the moving boxes yet.
Monday, September 16th, 2002 11:27 am (UTC)
I just picked up The Vor Game by Bujold used the other day.. it'll probably be my next book on the "to read" list after Bleak Seasons.
Monday, September 16th, 2002 10:09 am (UTC)
Just finished Drinking Midnight Wine - not brainsurgery, but fun.
Working on The Great Train Robbery

Dutifully reading Selected Letters of Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings
Monday, September 16th, 2002 10:14 am (UTC)
I just finished "the Witch Queen" by Jan Siegal. It wasn't as good as the first two (especially the first - Propero's Children) and I was disappointed with the ending. But it was one of those books I just had to read. ;-) I'm not-so-patiently awaiting the arrival of "Perdido Street Station" by China Mieville so I can start that. I found a cheap copy on half.com.
Monday, September 16th, 2002 10:23 am (UTC)
"The Arrogance of Power"... which I've been in for *weeks*, but it's so dense and flighty I can't sit and marathon-read it like I do other books, but so packed with goodies and anecdotes that I can't drop it altogether.

This morning I also picked up "Design and Construction of Microcomputers", ca. 1979.

I cannot deny I am a BIG GEEK. :)
Monday, September 16th, 2002 10:37 am (UTC)
Harry POtter and the Chamber of Secrets (gotta finish it before the movie comes out!)
I also haven't finished Everything's Eventual Stephen King's latest collection of short stories. I didn't read it over the SPXpo weekend and now I can't bring myself to pick it back up... weird.
Monday, September 16th, 2002 10:41 am (UTC)
... very good, jeeves, short stories by p.g. wodehouse. very funny.
Monday, September 16th, 2002 10:52 am (UTC)
I'm reading "Stupid White Men" Michael Moore's new book. So far I have to say I don't buy into all his rhetoric. I think politically he's got valid points, but socially I'm not swayed. I also just read Carl Sagan's Cosmos which I think is MUST for anyone interested in science.
Monday, September 16th, 2002 01:13 pm (UTC)
Tank, by Patrick Wright, a history of guess what. =:) Very interesting - armored warfare is a minor obsession of mine.
Monday, September 16th, 2002 01:56 pm (UTC)
hrmmm... lets see...

For work and subway time I'm reading How the Irish Saved Civilization which is really pretty interesting.

For "playtime" Im about halfway through Neil Gaiman's Stardust, which while I like Gaiman is annoying me just a tad. He's trying to be Lord Dunsany in this. And I'm re-reading Tolkien yet again.

For study, (on and off) i'm 2/3 into On Becoming A Counselor which is a text on "non-professional" counseling. Which sadly has come in handy all too often of late...

I'm re-reading Robert Jordan's "Wheel of Time" series in anticipation of the release of vol. 10, Crossroads of Twilight, in January. I'm up to vol. 4, the Shadow Rising. I tend to get most of my reading done at IHOP as I enjoy their grilled chicken caesar salad. I'm also reading Mike Nelson's Mind over Matters, and Kevin Murphy's a Year at the Movies when I'm in the toilet.
