Okay, when I asked what you want me to write about, I meant nonfiction... my dance card's all full for fiction! :) And besides, squirrels and rainbows = not my style...

Norse gods in Vegas is a maybe, for the future, just because anything's a maybe if you stick "in Vegas" on the end.

There was a request for more Walking on Water, and I shall comply. :) The bit that's been in my head to write that I haven't yet written is the day I met Layne. Which is very vivid, and of course extremely pivotal no matter what angle I take on the story, him being both my beloved and the person who got me onto crystal meth in the first place.

Why haven't I written it? Because I'm not sure whether there's a way to write that night that doesn't go into the sex.

And my *parents* know I'm writing this, man. I can't keep from imagining my mother clawing her eyes out.

So. We'll see.

I was being facetious about the squirrels, I was really drawing a blank :)

Well, you know how the latest Harry Potter released an adult and a children's version?

OK, I think HP was mostly a different cover, but the _concept_ could still work!

That's it! You need a PG version. PG is the classification we have for movies over here that require "parental guidance". In this case, 'Song, *you* need to guide your parents *away* from that version... =;o>

Huh?

In some places, Half Blood Prince was released in two editions. See the Wiki entry.

Huh. I learned something new today.
I hope I got the adult edition. ;}

Speaking of fantasy set in Las Vegas, have you read Last Call? I finished it yesterday and was consistently thinking of your descriptions of the city throughout.
Thursday, March 30th, 2006 08:03 pm (UTC)
Outstanding book. I love Tim Powers...
Thursday, March 30th, 2006 08:06 pm (UTC)
It's the only one of his I've read so far, but since I loved it so much, I ordered On Stranger Tides, Anubis Gates, and Drawing of the Dark this morning from Amazon on the recommendation of the person from whom I borrowed Last Call

I like all of those, but the follow-on books to Last Call are Expiration Date and Earthquake Weather, and they are both very good.

How'd I measure up? :)
Thursday, April 27th, 2006 05:44 pm (UTC)
honestly, given that I think your writing is more evocative that Powers's writing, it's more that he was the one who was measuring up. :-)
Thursday, April 27th, 2006 05:45 pm (UTC)
Huh!

That is... insanely flattering.
Thursday, April 27th, 2006 05:48 pm (UTC)
It was intended to be so. :-) Powers is one of my favorite writers, but when I think of his writing, it's about the characters IN the space he's talking about, but not necessarily A PART OF it. When you write about Vegas, it's impossible in my mind to separate the people from the setting... I'd go so far as to say that Las Vegas feels like the third major character in much of the Walking on Water pieces I've read.

Good! I'm not writing that way with that specific intent, but - that's how Vegas *feels*. Some cities are merely a backdrop for the occurences therein. Vegas? Hell no, man. There are things that happen there that could only happen there. The city has an energy about it. I'm glad that's coming through...

Is that like adding "in bed" or "between the sheets" to the end of your Chinese fortune? ;D

Yes!

That thing with your parents is a quandary I always feel when I'm writing nonfic. Which is partly why I write so little nonfic. At least for a large audience.
Thursday, March 30th, 2006 07:56 pm (UTC)
Aw, c'mon! =)

Okay, sunshine, licorice, lollips, ponies and rainbows in Vegas!
Thursday, March 30th, 2006 07:56 pm (UTC)
*sigh* Try to be cute and you get things like "lollips." Oy.
Thursday, March 30th, 2006 08:02 pm (UTC)
I find my mind boggling at Norse gods in Vegas:

Ragnarok at the Atomic Test Site?

Fenris in Pahrump?

I'm hearing voices in my head...
Thursday, March 30th, 2006 08:51 pm (UTC)
which is not so bad, but they're my voices. Which raises the question of what they're doing in your head...
but if you wanna borrow the concept go for it!

*grins*

Okayyy...

non-fiction... umm. How about the night/day of Elyana's birth? That's gotta be interesting.

Yes more walking on water would be a great read. Although the story is about you, Layne comes in as best suporrting charecter and how you met him would be a great read. If you wrote a book, maybe the raw emotion of sex and how it made you feel may pull the reader in more but for LJ, maybe just a "we had sex. Then we talked about X"

I dunno. I remember one night I read all the entries and it was a gripping tale. I can relate to most of it except the rape part and I think what you did write left me speechless. This is great writing Shade, so keep it coming. If people like one thing it's a drama with a happy ending (For the most part). You can see the movie "Shadesong: A Las Vegas tale" taking place here can't ya? :)

Annnnnnd what's wrong with squirrels..?

*nudge nudge*

Even if you don't keep it in the final revision, write it. If it's in your head and wants to come out -- don't fight it. Don't ever fight it.
