So Elayna's school is doing this huge push to get 100% attendance at tomorrow's Open House.

Which would be a lot easier if they would provide childcare, like they did last year.

Nope. Don't think they're getting high attendance...

What grade is Elayna in? Kritter's in 3rd...Beana is in Kindergarden.

She's in 2nd, but it's a Montessori school, so her class is a mix of grades 1-3.

*nod* Kritter and Beana went to a Montessori school through Kindergarden. Finances, and having a good local public school dictated not continuing the Montessori method after Kindergarden...Beana was too young for public kindergarden last year, but was still in her "kindergarden" (if you could really call it that) year at Sunny Hollow...as such she's in Kindergarden again this year...it'll be interesting to see the differences, and how she does. SH was a full day program. CL is a half day program. But the teachers are doing some very SH-like stuff this year, so it will be *very* interesting.

Elayna's in public school. Yes, Montessori public school. :) It's an experiment three schools in our county are trying, and it appears to be wildly successful...

*nod* they have public Montessori's up in St. Paul (3 so far) - none down in our district. A couple of friends have sent their children to them...with mixed reviews...and some confusion. From some of the questions that have been raised by one of my friends, I'm not sure the school her son goes to does a good job of explaining Montessori philosophy to the parents. So he's 5 years old, going into this year as an "old friend" and freaking out because he doesn't want to help the younger kids..he just "wants to play". And she doesn't understand that part of the success of the Montessori method (when it's done right) is kids helping each other learn new things. Maybe we just got lucky with SH - *shrug* I don't know - it was the only Montessori that had an opening and that I had a *good feeling* about in our area. Kritter needed something more challenging than normal preschool, and we were ecstatic with the school until it changed directors. Now while we're happy that they went there when they did, we're glad they don't have to go back. The teachers are great - but the director makes for an uncormfortable environment IMO.

Now, what the heck *is* a Montessori school, anyway? ;)
