All day, I've been telling myself that I wasn't going to do it. All day. And all day yesterday.
But dammit, I went and did it.
I volunteered to be the room mother again.
*sigh* At least I managed to make it clear that I suck at calling people for things. So Monty's mom said she'd do the calling-people stuff if I'd do the holiday-party, teacher-gift, booth-at-Spring-Fling stuff. So I'm not doing it alone. But I swore to myself that I wasn't going to volunteer, and I did it anyway.
Well, someone had to.
Mmm. Other news. Elayna is smart. This I knew. Elayna sometimes gives attitude (not enough for her to be a big problem, but still). She'll be spoken to. She should write cursive more. On the book issue: the teacher doesn't go to the library with them. So I'm writing a note to the librarian.
Saw a bunch of people I knew. It's weird, this school is *so* much more close-knit than her old school in FL; I know so many people here. The whole executive board of the PTA knows me by name. In a good way. I'm on the book fair committee.
Met her boyfriend Jake's mom. Elayna has a little love-triangle thing going on with Patrick and Jake; I'd known Patrick's mom from last year; just met Jake's. She's... a little off. The kind of off that make you edge away subconsciously. Yah. Um. She revealed that Jake has an Elayna doll at home. With long blonde hair. That she made for him, because he talks about her so much. So now he can play with Elayna at school and his Elayna doll at home. Yah. Ooookay. I tried to make a joke about hoping they don't stick pins in the doll when she hangs out with Patrick more than Jake. Right over her head.
So. Summation. Elayna's doing well. I have a miniconference on Monday to talk more about her specifically, as Open House is more of a n overview. And I'm now Book Fair Mom and Room Mom and occasional Reading-in-the-Morning Mom, because I cannot keep my fool mouth shut.
And now I'm going for a walk.

Anyway. I bet they keep their mouths shut when it's time to volunteer 'cause they know you'll do it. And I'm sure you do a great job of it.
Oh, what I have to look forward to after Pre-K...

Creepy. Not that the boy has a doll, but the mom...
I dunno. I'm pretty strange, so I shouldn't be one to talk.

the mom made it for him?
strange.
and that mixed with the subconcious back away feeling is just ick.

That, uh, other mom, though. Wow. I wonder if Jake's teacher noticed how flakycreepynutso she was... And she made a DOLL that looks like your daughter? Lordy. I just hope he doesn't end up all creepylike like his mom.
