Middle of the week, halfway to the weekend, yay!

Things that have happened recently that suck that I have not written about: had a minor altercation with a belligerent asshole (I took a spot the considered his - well, he was backing up as if to parallel park and didn't have his blinker on) who actually followed me most of the way home, tailgating and honking (got me rattled enough to drive around the neighborhood a bit to make sure I'd lost him, then put the car in the carport overnight), had a gas main at the house directly across from us blow - we were safe, but they had our driveway blocked from before-5 to after-11 at least, and I had to navigate around the twisty streets in our neighborhood All By Myself because [livejournal.com profile] yendi popped out to talk to the workmen, and yesterday, my Invader Zim bookbag broke! One of the plastic strap-holder thingies just snapped. And I've had the damn thing less than a month.

So we're exchanging the bookbag, and I think I'm going to need to place a Hot Topic order. They have Gir socks. And funky shoelaces. And Secret of NIMH t-shirts. And I need to see if they have cute patterned tights that I can wear under my skirts; extra layer for warmth. But they better not give me any shit about the bookbag.

I have been updating my wardrobe, slowly but surely... shopping for twirly gypsy/crinkle/broomstick/whateveryoucallem skirts on eBay. They're more flattering to my new rounded shape than slacks are...and petite slacks are *expensive* (my last pair was $70) and I don't want to keep buying more as my weight fluctuates, when I can just cinch the skirts a little more or a little less. *shrug* So if you see any pretty skirts for cheap, let me know!

Question of the day: If you were to write your autobiography, what would you title it?

"Roof of the Cathedral". Damned if I can explain it, it just popped into my head.

Absolution

or

Star Gate: an adventure in bridge building, dirt, and dreams
Wednesday, September 18th, 2002 07:32 am (UTC)
or maybe A Singing Bird in a Broken Cage

Or you can try Ebay ;-) the best search string phrases to use for this sort of thing are "gypsy" hippie" "boho" "bohemian"....

[livejournal.com profile] branwynelf used to sell alot of these sort of things, so did MaryAnn (Reclectica on Ebay). Hopefully they'll both start selling again soon.

I'd have called the police on him... which reminds me, last time I was down there, *GSP didn't work... hear anything about that? I was going to call in an acura and a subaru racing up I85 in traffic.
Wednesday, September 18th, 2002 06:36 am (UTC)
I don't have a cell phone... what's a *GSP?
Wednesday, September 18th, 2002 06:40 am (UTC)
*GSP is the cellphone calling code for Georgia State Patrol, for when you're on the interstate and need their help.

WHen I called I got sent immediately to sprint PCS directory assistance... and probably charged $1.25 for it.
Wednesday, September 18th, 2002 01:26 pm (UTC)
Last time I needed to report something to the GSP, I just called 911 and told the operator to transfer me to the GSP. Of course, expecting anything like competency out of the Metro Atlanta 911 operators is like expecting Shakepeare out of a bunch of typing monkeys...

"And They Like Me Anyway"

BTW, it seems that Wal Mart often has decent broomstick skirts for under $10, definitely under $15. LadySea and MNFiddleDragon both have had pretty good results.
Wednesday, September 18th, 2002 07:06 am (UTC)
Ah, if only there was a Wal-Mart within a 40-minute drive....

Wednesday, September 18th, 2002 08:09 am (UTC)
There's one right near that macaroni grill we went to.
Wednesday, September 18th, 2002 08:24 am (UTC)
I didn't know there were any places left in the south without a wal mart nearby :)
Wednesday, September 18th, 2002 01:28 pm (UTC)
Apparently Wal*Marts are getting so HUGE (in terms of square-footage) that they can't easily fit one anywhere inside the perimeter. It sucks.

When I worked at their corporate offices I knew that there were a variety of challenges for them placing new stores, but most of the issues we heard about were in New England or the West Coast.

"Fantasy Free" or "Fantastic Voyage"

Wish you could have gotten the plate and reported that dick.

hugs

I'd actually decided to entitle my autobiography "Nobody Claps for Me". Yeah, I know, self pity whores 'r' us. But what do you expect from a 14 year old misfit? The title came from when they introduced the competitive teams at our school assembly when I was in Grade 7. I was captain of the spelling team (yeah, I was THAT much of a geek) and we'd actually won the county championship. Everyone else on the team got applause when we were introduced. When I was introduced, the place got silent except for whispers.
Anyhow, I'm so over it and now my autobiography would probably be something like "Well It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time".
Wednesday, September 18th, 2002 07:03 am (UTC)
Well, if I end up the way I want to end up, I could call it "Move to the Country (with a half-a-dozeon lovers)". The way it is now, it's more like "Go West, Young Man"....

(and fie on the grammar nazis, I'm too lazy to do the underlines this morning. :)
Wednesday, September 18th, 2002 07:14 am (UTC)
Only a half-dozen? ;)
Friday, September 20th, 2002 12:07 pm (UTC)
hey, if y'all are willing to come all the way out here and join the fun, the more the merrier... but it's a long freakin' way back to Dixie, and you're not gonna want to leave once you get here... :)
Wednesday, September 18th, 2002 07:23 am (UTC)
Happy Wednesday to you, as well.

Hmmm... autobiography? I dunno.
I'd probably ask my friends. Sounds like a poll...
Wednesday, September 18th, 2002 07:41 am (UTC)
After an intensive 5 minutes' thought, I'm leaning towards 'A Pocketful of Books', not only because of the play on the Agatha Christie title but also because of the tie to the way I got my school nickname.
Wednesday, September 18th, 2002 07:41 am (UTC)
"Who Am I Now?"
"Where Am I Going Next?"
"Who the Hell am I and How did I get Here??"
I dunno. Never considered it. I never thought it would make good reading, really.

Interesting, that all the titles that sprang to mind were questions...
Wednesday, September 18th, 2002 07:53 am (UTC)
Many of my friends have suggested "A Life Gods Do Not Deserve"............
Wednesday, September 18th, 2002 08:41 am (UTC)
"Possibly, Waiting"

and hey, Secret of NIHM shirts? I haven't seen this yet. I love that movie.
Wednesday, September 18th, 2002 09:22 am (UTC)
the way I am feeling today it would most likely be
"wasted creativity and the fine art of frustration"

bad day from the get go, gah
Wednesday, September 18th, 2002 12:56 pm (UTC)
"You Did WHAT?"
Wednesday, September 18th, 2002 01:33 pm (UTC)
Autobiography... Hrm... Well, the first thing to come to me was "Humor out of Season". But I'm sure I'll come up with something better than that. Of course, since I learned my particular brand of humor from watching sitcoms as a child, perhaps something like, "Never/6 Central" or "Unsyndicated Preruns" or something... I dunno...

...Elipsis...Man...strikes...again...!... <-- Or maybe that.
Wednesday, September 18th, 2002 04:04 pm (UTC)
heh. Landing On My Feet

which, yes, is the title on my LJ. because that's as close as I'm ever going to get to an autobiography.

*ducks head and scuffles feet in the dirt* I'm never gonna be as open as you about my past, much less present.

*wry grin* but that's ok; it's been one hell of a life so far, and it ain't over yet!
Wednesday, September 18th, 2002 04:30 pm (UTC)
*hugs* Only be as open as you want to be. :)

Thursday, September 19th, 2002 05:43 am (UTC)
I don't think I'm quite old enough to, yet.

The story of my first year of high school was called "Much Ado About Star Trek", and remained with that title, until the Plot Fairy came and slapped my head and it became [livejournal.com profile] ectogenesis.

But that one's by no means autobiography anymore.

Maybe Donkey Recalcitrant, Fayoumis Rampant, after my proposed family coat of arms. On a field azure & Sable, of course.
Thursday, September 19th, 2002 05:54 am (UTC)
Heh. The story of my first your of high school was "Drawn That Way", after, yes, Jessica Rabbit.
