Hello to new friends [livejournal.com profile] 0595, [livejournal.com profile] rubberella, [livejournal.com profile] suibhne_geilt, and [livejournal.com profile] terrycloth!

Yesterday's Firefly get-together went well. :) Got to see [livejournal.com profile] rloveking and [livejournal.com profile] voltbang and [livejournal.com profile] mfree, which always rocks, and meet < lj user="gladstone">, [livejournal.com profile] mightywombat (who likes headskritches), [livejournal.com profile] elorie, Droid, and Raven. And [livejournal.com profile] glenn5 and LJless Thomas drifted in and out at various points as well. :) Elayna and Raven got along famously and actually stay ed out of our way, which is good, because Firefly rocked... all the fun snappy Joss dialogue in a great, internally consistent sci-fi setting. And we had to follow that up by watching "The Fifth Element". It made sense at the time.

Time after that was just spent hanging out and talking, and I'm pretty sure a fun time was had by all... and everyone's invited back on Tuesday to watch Buffy!

Off to write now! :)

Mabon's actually on Monday ... it wandered to the 23rd this month.

Wish I'd have been able to see Firefly. Stupid baseball game. *muttergrumble*

Hmph. Happy Saturday, then!

Happy Saturday to you too! (Although I'm more looking forward to Sunday ... have me a date!)

Actually...not according to my calendar, it didn't. Technically, the actual equinox is late on the 22nd, at least in the USA.

http://www.archaeoastronomy.com/almanac.shtml

Of course, if you're keeping Celtic or Jewish time, ie, the day starts when the sun goes down, then yes, Mabon would be from sundown on the 22nd to sundown on the 23rd.

Aye, I checked my other calendar here at home to find tomorrow was marked, although the two others say Monday. I think the problem lies in when we actually reach the mark - and the calendar companies have to decide which day to tag as the day. Works the same with the full moon, eh?

*does some internet searching* Hey! Too cool! The equinox hits at 4:04pm tomorrow pacific time according to this page. (http://www.archaeoastronomy.com/almanac.shtml) Neat!

Ummm, sweetie? That's the one I just *posted* in my comment. What searching was required for that? *giggle*

*tardiness of reply due to a day spent being social instead of home near computer*

Ok, I'm claiming stupidity due to being woken at 4am by neighbourhood dogs barking. And the fact I'm naturally blond and when my roots start showing I perpetuate the stereotype.

*blushes furiously*

I used the US Naval Observatory:
http://aa.usno.navy.mil/

They show the Earth's seasons -
Equinoxes, Solstices, Perihelion, and Aphelion (1992-2005)
http://aa.usno.navy.mil/data/docs/EarthSeasons.html
Universal Time
                  d h d h m d h m
2002 2002
Perihelion Jan 2 14 Equinoxes Mar 20 19 16 Sept 23 04 55
Aphelion July 6 04 Solstices June 21 13 24 Dec 22 01 14

So... that'd be Mabon starting on on Sunday night, with the astronomical event happening a little past midnight.

That's Universal Time, though. I don't know about you, but I don't live along that time zone. I'm in US Central Time. For me, it's late afternoon on the 22nd.

Actually, it's at 4:55 AM by UT (aka GMT), so for Eastern Daylight Time call it 5 minutes before 1 AM (EST is GMT -5 hr, EDT is GMT -4 hr, as best I remember; think of how the sun rises in the east ::Grin:: ).

But... my Witches Calendar says it's on Sunday...

I'm a confused little pagan...

I caught bits and pieces of "Firefly". It looks pretty good, I think I'll end up watching it. The bit where they were trying to give the money back was priceless. :D Good scifi is so hard to come by on TV, now that "Farscape" is slated for cancellation. The show after "Firefly", "John Doe", was pretty fun too.

"The Fifth Element" is such a fun movie, one of my favorites. I break out the DVD every few months and watch it again.

I like headskritches, too, or I would if anyone would ever give me them, which they don't, but I'll be back Tuesday if you don't mind. I had a good time last night. Thanks.

*laugh* I'll give you headskritches on Tuesday. :)
