Morpheus: "It is sometimes a mistake to climb. It is always a mistake never even to make the attempt... If you do not climb you will not fall. This is true. But is it that bad to fall, that hard to fall? Sometimes you wake, and sometimes, yes, you die. But there is a third alternative."

Todd, upon waking: "Sometimes you wake up. Sometimes the fall kills you. And sometimes, when you fall...you fly."

If you wonder why I keep opening myself the way I do... why I take the instinctive, illogical leaps that I do...

...it's because sometimes... I fly. :) And the flying is worth the falling. The flying is worth everything.

Yes, yes it is.

Wow.

Which one's that in? One I haven't read yet.

But that's something I needed to read tonight, I think.

It's the prologue to "Fables & Reflections".

And I'm glad I put it out there for you to read. *grin*

Give me a few weeks, and I'll be reading it there in print, unless my friendly neighborhood comics store is out of that or "A Game of You" when I go to get them. Currently have 2 volumes of Preacher and a volume of Kabuki and about half of "Season of Mists" in the to-read stack.

Ooohyes, you must get all of Sandman... and Kabuki.

Das the plan. I'm back on track with Kabuki now that [livejournal.com profile] dslartoo has brought me my volume 2 (signed by David Mack)...thought I was going to have to wait until October when the paperback comes back into print.

Kabuki is what I'll be pressing into your hands tomorrow night. It is an absolute must-read.
Monday, September 23rd, 2002 07:49 am (UTC)
You won't be seeing me tomorrow night, as I'll be desperately working on things that must be finished by a week from tomorrow night.

I've got too much else to read right now anyway. But what's it about?
Monday, September 23rd, 2002 07:55 am (UTC)
You suck. *pout*

You'll just have to read it; it's indescribable...
Sunday, September 22nd, 2002 08:55 pm (UTC)
**sigh** Yes.
Sunday, September 22nd, 2002 09:07 pm (UTC)
*GRIN* I always liked that quote. Neil Gaiman always has such a way of making me feel all smooshy inside... the bastard.
Sunday, September 22nd, 2002 09:49 pm (UTC)
Amen!

Another one that I like, both in context and out of context, is from Akira.
"Takashi, don't! If you get too close, you won't be able to come back."
"I know, but what else can I do?"
Sunday, September 22nd, 2002 10:14 pm (UTC)
It's not flying after all, it's falling with style. ;)

Monday, September 23rd, 2002 04:14 am (UTC)
Indeed. :) Or just missing the ground, a la Douglas Adams....

Monday, September 23rd, 2002 01:29 am (UTC)
"No, John Constantine... though it was a dream, were you to die there, you would be dead."

Or something like that... my copy isn't in front of me. ;)

Even dreams can fuck with your real actual life. Bah.

Hrm. Pseudo-drunk Nomads shouldn't post much.

*thud*

I don't have flying dreams. Odd that. Farren has them all the time, but not me.

I fall. The ground rushes to meet me. I wake up with the 'bounce' of the bed.

*shrug* Dunno. Not at all true to the beautiful theme of 'song's post, but true in reality nonetheless. Maybe it's because flying has never really meant freedom to me as it does to so many others...
