First off, hi to new friends
corruptviridian and
dragonheart97!
Just got home from our parent/teacher conference, and the news is good. The news is very good. Elayna is doing an absolutely excellent job, academically and socially; the whining we'd discussed at the open house last week has been reduced drastically. She's been recommended to test for the gifted program again this year. She's working on multiplication - simple times tables now, but her teacher estimates that next month she'll be doing triple-digit-times-single-digit multiplication, and she thinks Elayna's ready for some higher math, beyond third grade (she's in second grade in a Montessori first-through-third-grade class). There's nothing she needs to work on in particular. Nothing. She's exceptional.
The one statement that made me grin the most... we were talking about Elayna's obsession with wombats, and I jokingly said, "Y'know, it's hard to find children's books about wombats!" And her teacher said, "Elayna's reading is so advanced... it wouldn't have to be a children's book."
My kid rocks.

Mama and I used to sit down together. I would tell a story, and Mama would write it down and illustrate it with little line drawings, and I would color it.
Nephew wrote with me "The Dragon In With The Socks" some months ago. "There was a dragon in with the socks. The socks caught on fire! The guys ran around and around in circles. They disappeared like ghosts! The dragon flew away." Exceptionally silly, and so much fun!
