Hello to new reader [livejournal.com profile] navitas2003!

Medical
Lyrica-wise, I'm okay - final bump-up tomorrow.

Fibro-wise, I'm not okay. Overworked myself like whoa this weekend.

FYI to Atlantans
Yard sale at my place on Saturday, October 14. Books! Games! Stuffed animals! Clothes! All manner of crap we picked up over the years thinking we'd use and haven't! If we haven't used something in the 2 1/2 years we've been in this house, and it doesn't have big eBay potential, come pick it up for cheap.

Daily Science
To the list of wonders of the ancient world, perhaps another should be added: nanotechnology. It seems that a hair-dye formula dating to Greek and Roman days works by causing tiny nanocrystals to form deep inside strands of hair.

Daily BPAL
Cockaigne: “The weather is always mild, the wine flows freely, sex is readily available, and all people enjoy eternal youth.” The Land of Plenty, also called Luilekkerland – the Lazy, Luscious Land: milk and honey, sweet cakes and wine.

In bottle: Ooooh. Sweet. [livejournal.com profile] kissmythistle compared it to Mitzvah, and that comparison is clearer when in the bottle, though it may smell like Mitzvah on someone else's skin. On mine...

On me: Wet, this is Drink Me's lighter little sister - which delights me, because Drink Me is sometimes too heavy to wear. But this has the luscious foody sweetness that makes me smile. Dry... people disagree. Everyone smells something different, but everyone agrees that it smells wonderful. Honey cakey lightly-spicy sweet - baked goods. Cinnamon rolls. The woman at Two Six swore she smelled pumpkin. This has throw like whoa - I wave my arms when I talk, and according to KMT, whenever I do, this lusciousness just wafts out from me. Thank goodness this isn't an LE. It's a new 'song signature scent!

Caliban: The scent of the salty seas, bittersweet wine, palm and tropical ferns.

In bottle: The greenest green that ever greened!

On me: Yep. That's green. That's really, really green. Green like crushing juicy plant stems between your fingers. Did I mention that it's green?

...and as it dries down, the saltwater comes out, and now it's the dipping of the karpas at Pesach. Huh.

Any of those clothes coming off your back? ;-)

*doesn't duck quickly enough*

Ow!!!

Everyone smells something different, but everyone agrees that it smells wonderful.

I was reading up on the legends behind the name. I wasn't familiar with that particular name, but I certainly know about the Land of Milk and Honey and the Big Rock Candy Mountain. (ah, Wikipedia, how I love thee!) It makes *sense* that everyone's paradise would be a bit different. Again I ask, "How do they DO that?" (I know. They're alchemists.)

Reminds me of a line from Ellen DeGeneres's sitcom: "It tastes...green."

*adds Cockaigne to my wishlist*

That sounds heavenly! I lovelovelove drink me, and I'm sad I missed out on Mitzvah, and never will be able to afford it.

Sold a map of Cockaigne once. German, so Das Schlaraffenlandes. Pretty nifty.

Paleontologists forced to break a Tyrannosaurus thigh bone in half were greatly surprised to find soft tissue inside that had resisted fossilization.

Someone posted the link in Caitlin R. Kiernan's journal ([livejournal.com profile] greygirlbeast).

Dude, if this really happened, this is science fiction stuff in real life. Cool.

:-O

I damn near fell off my chair when I saw my name announced in your blog.

Thank you for the Mention. My GF, Eustaciavye, really encouraged me to read your blogs. ... I think I see why:-)

I just wanted to say --

I stumbled across BPAL's website forever ago (I think from an ad in BUST?), and thought to myself, what a neat website and a fantastic idea, I'll need to come back sometime when I have some actual income.

I've been enjoying all of your recent posts about the BPAL scents, and now that I've got a real job that pays me with real paychecks, your descriptions of the wonderfulness of various scents (even though in some cases I am POSITIVE the specific scents being praised would not work on me) prodded me into placing an actual order for a set of imps.

They should give you a referral bonus, or something!

I would so love that. Free bottle for every five people enabled!

What did you order? :)

I was trying to go both for concepts I liked and a variety of notes to test and see what my body chemistry loves and/or hates, so:

Vice
Kitsune-Tsuki
Bastet
Snake Oil
Miskatonic U
Titania

I'm mostly used to generic department store perfume stuff, so I wanted to get some stuff with notes that were familiar (vanilla and light fruits/florals) but also had scents I'm less well-acquainted with. I ALSO read some reviews on BPAL.org to see what was generally popular and read some descriptions, which were very helpful. Sometimes I read the notes on BPAL's site and am like, "okay, but what does that all SMELL like?"

I've also joined up at the forum and the mailing list, and I look forward to trying and sniffing and whatnot!
